The United States voiced concern Friday over a report that China manipulated international Internet traffic intended for a major Chinese Web service company and used it for a cyberattack on U.S. sites.

State Department spokesman Jeff Rathke’s comments follow complaints from anti-online censorship group Greatfire.org that Chinese authorities carried out denial-of-service attacks in late March that intermittently shut down San Francisco-based Github, a U.S.-based computer-code sharing site that hosts some of Greatfire’s data. Greatfire.org said it was a direct target of similar attacks earlier that month. […]

The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday. …

Cant be. After forty years of opening up to China they are our fiercely loyal friend and ally, and many many US jobs have been created from the back and forth, especially in manufacturing.
The same will happen with Cuba and Iran.

Just what is the downside for China? Any meaningful retaliation is not likely at all.

A couple of import taxes on cheap Chinese products might get their attention. Start with a 300 percent bump on the stuff sold at Wal Mart...

Marxists double down after being slighted.

The only thing that tariffs will cause, without a commensurate resurgence of US domestic production to counteract it (you know, put the 30 percent unemployed back to work and suchlike), is a trade war.

Expecting “meaningful retaliation” out of Obama, i.e. that doesn’t hurt the USA but helps it, is like expecting the sun to rise in the west.

Let a few hundred metal containers park themselves on the docks at Seattle for six months. We'll see who squeals...

It’ll be the crony corporations who squeal. First and loudly.

Red China won’t care; after all, they build ghost cities.

The next war will be fought largely by computers.

Is China rehearsing?

According to all of the free-traitor, outsourcing-profits-at-all-costs crowd here on FR, the noble and honorable communist chinese would never, ever, do such a thing. Honest!

People here do have to realize that there are plenty of Americans who would sell their country out in a New York second to fatten up their quarterly profits, and that there are plenty of chinese government agencies who will buy it all up, and then some, solely to gain any competitve advantage that thet can over the west.

"Concerned?".. Aren't we all.

WHO will actually do SOMETHING to combat this?

Or is the Government LYING to us AGAIN and this is fabricated lies necessary for the FCC to allow the Government COMPLETE jurisdiction over the Internet?
