Picking up where Sens. Tom Cotton and Marco Rubio left off, House conservatives plan to press House GOP leaders to allow a series of hard-to-oppose amendments to the Iran nuclear review bill.
The move by the conservative House Freedom Caucus could put Speaker John Boehner in a bind. He’ll have to decide whether to clamp down on attempts to change the bill as Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) did in the Senate, angering his right flank — or to allow votes on their amendments at the risk of tanking the legislation authored by Sens. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) and Ben Cardin (D-Md.).
President Barack Obama would be certain to veto the legislation if it’s changed, viewing the conservative add-ons as poison pills.
The legislation is expected to come to the House floor next week.
“The current Corker deal gives the illusion of government oversight while actually just providing political cover,” Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), a Freedom Caucus member, said in an interview. “A number of conservative House members want to encourage our leadership to allow meaningful amendments.”
Freedom Caucus members held a conference call Tuesday evening discuss their plans. One of their planned amendments mirrors a proposal by Rubio (R-Fla.) to require Iran to recognize Israel as a Jewish state as a condition of any nuclear deal. Another amendment would mandate that the director of National Intelligence certify Iran has “dismantled its ballistic weapons development and research programs.” A third proposal would require President Barack Obama to “certify Iran has ceased all support and funding of terrorism and terrorist activities.”
The roughly 30-member Freedom Caucus plans to press Boehner and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on the Iran bill when the House returns from recess Tuesday, sources said. Boehner and the Republican leadership will decide how many amendments

Any bill not passed by 2/3 of the Senate is not a treaty, and the next POTUS can rip it up.
Good grief, hope somebody in congress does something...anything.
The only way Boehner could get his right flank any angrier is to lay another couple of french kisses upon Nancy Pelosi in front of the cameras.

House Conservatives represent the last shot to stop a bad deal with Iran absent military action.
Seems like a long shot however that the GOP leadership in the House will find a spine and force amendment votes that Rats have threatened will cause them to drop support for the bill.
Still it would be a huge victory if Boehner did allows these votes after the farce that went on in the Senate the past 2 weeks.
