Poll shows growing religious support for same-sex marriage
CNN ^ | 4/28/15 | Daniel Burke

Until recently, if you sat in church on Sunday mornings, pollsters could predict where you stood on same-sex marriage.

What a difference a decade makes.

...In 2003....less than 30% of religiously affiliated Americans supported gays' and lesbians' right to wed.

By 2014, that number had climbed to 47%, according to a survey conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute....

....Despite vocal opposition from the U.S. Catholic Bishops, for example, 60% of Catholics now favor same-sex marriage. That's a huge increase from 2003, when just 35% backed gay rights, according to survey conducted at the time by the Pew Research Center.

Mainline Protestants -- so-called for their prominence in 20th century American life -- also saw a huge shift in the last decade. While 36% supported same-sex marriage in 2003, now 62% do.

Many “religious” people accept divorce/re-marriage and abortion; why would this be any different? They just moved the goalposts by changing the definition of “religious”.

There is no Christian justification for divorce or homosexuality (the first straight from the mouth of Jesus, the second from God in His chastisement of Sodom & Gomorrah); while “documentaries” try to lessen the iron of those words/actions, that is simply to destroy faith.

So the mass of Catholics are improperly catechized or are functionally heretics — not news at this point.

There is a difference in being religious and being a person who Christ has regenerated, And is leading with The Holy Spirit.

Most PEOPLE are now afraid to take a stand. The homonazis have made it very clear you can lose your job or business if you say anything critical of same-sex “marriage.”

Religious support for gay marriage is a Judeo Christian oxymoron. If yor religion opposes it how can you religiously support it?

That is simply becuase the left has either infiltrated some existing churches or simply set their own left wing churches up when that didnt work.

These polls are so bogus. Anyone who supports gay marriage has to deny their faith and God’s Word. If they do that, they may be religious, but their Christianity is questionable.

My best friend remarried after she was widowed. Her oldest daughter and one of her son-in-laws profess to be gay and have long term partners. Nothing causes us to not love our children, but neither my friend nor her husband condone those relationships and make that clear to their kids.

“They ran to the courts to overturn the popular vote.” Precisely.

My church is nondenominational and if it ever promoted gay marriage I would shake the dust from my feet and leave.

They must not read the Bible!

Genesis 1

English Standard Version (ESV)

26 Then God said, “Let us make man[h] in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

27 So God created man in his own image,
    in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29 And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. 31 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Any “church” group that approves of sodomy, same-sex marriage, transgenderism, and bestiality is straight up from the synogogue of satan.

Christians should be taking a stand so extreme that they will forfeit freedom and face prison (or worse) over this issue.

God will have the final say on those trying to impose this on His people and the world He created.

I could really care less if Gays get into a contractual union but I care a lot if they use the word marriage to do it.

All “they” need to do is find another word like they did to describe themselves as “Gay” instead of homosexual and this problem goes away.

They won’t do that though because they think they can redefine the word marriage to include their homosexuality when that particular word is for when a man and woman commit to being married for life.

They don’t get to change the rules after thousands of years. Not now. Not ever.

Religious parasites can support what ever they want. They always do.

But that doesn’t change the fact that Nature selected HETEROsexual reproduction for the human species - and not the mutual masturbation selected by reprobate perverts who pretend what they’re doing is sex.

...Sexual reproduction must offer significant fitness advantages to a species because despite the two-fold cost of sex, it dominates among multicellular forms of life, implying that the quality of offspring produced outweighs the costs. Sexual reproduction derives from recombination, where parent genotypes are reorganized and shared with the offspring...

I get your point but this isn’t about reproduction. Heck - if I really understood how two guys or girls could get into a sexual relationship; maybe I could explain it better.

I just know the word ‘marriage’ is the wrong word for homosexual couples.

They need to come up with a word that distinguishes them from a heterosexual couple.

what a “difference” a decade makes...? Well, not really. Since there is no wedding without a bride and a groom, and no marriage without a husband and wife, “same-sex marriage” does not, and cannot exist - that’s simply reality. There may be more people supposedly not able to comprehend something so basic, but that doesn’t change that fact...unless they now can somehow make a credible argument that a woman can be a husband/groom or man be a wife/bride, nothing has changed.

There are many who use the church merely as a social club.

You may have a point - as the data shows on the link that evangelicals overwhelmingly still support marriage vs. ignoring its definition and purpose.

Genesis 2 is where the reason for the two sexes, and marriage and its purpose are specifically defined. There is no way that can be “interpreted” to mean anything else.

These churches claiming to support same-sex marriage during a ceremony would not be able to read any passages of scripture traditionally read at weddings where marriage is discussed and its purpose defined...
