At least four Florida companies have been approved for ferry service from the United States to Cuba.

For the first time in five decades, the U.S. is allowing ferry service between Florida and Cuba..

At least four companies said they were notified Tuesday of approvals by the U.S. Treasury and Commerce departments, the first since Washington imposed a trade embargo on Cuba.

Licensed were Havana Ferry Partners of Fort Lauderdale, Baja Ferries of Miami, United Caribbean Lines Florida of Greater Orlando and Airline Brokers Co. of Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

Wasn’t there something a while back about Cuba supposedly releasing a bunch of political prisoners?

Back in Cartertime the Castro brothers emptied the prisons and mental hospitals of the most disturbed and violent to feed them into the Mariel boatlift. This could offer Cuba an opportunity to do the same thing again.

I’m certainly no Obama fan, but then I’ve been asking my Party for 20 years why we don’t have normalized relations with our neighbor? I have not figured out yet why trade relations with Cuba is supposed to be a bad thing. Yet some political elites see it as hunky dory to allow the Chinese Commies to own us with our jobs and debt, but relations with Cuba is somehow bad. And no I don’t read or subscribe to the required pundit playbooks. I make my own decisions.

” Back in Cartertime the Castro brothers emptied the prisons and mental hospitals of the most disturbed and violent to feed them into the Mariel boatlift. “

Amy wasn’t raped or murdered by the Marielitos, so all is well....

Talk to someone who knows people suffering in Cuba. Then you will know.

Not all bad:

Now we’ll be able to go down to Cuba and buy one of their beautiful antique cars — then drive the thing to the ferry and back home. Key West here I come!

So... whose ‘foundation’ did they have to donate to in order to get the licenses ?

Because this solidifies the Communist Party rule in Cuba and ensconces them in power for decades to come.

No way they are going by the way side now.

I have not figured out yet why trade relations with Cuba is supposed to be a bad thing.

Because the profits realized by Cuba will mostly be funneled to the Communist Party and the communist elites and will help prolong the life of communist rule. Just as is happening in China, which also gives China the funds to grow their military and make mischief around the world.

And with increased tourism revenue and new foreign biz opening up they’ll have no longer need to keep their dissident citizens under imprisoned on the island.

Without the Cuban military shooting at people fleeing the straits of FL will become and ocean interstate highway of refugees headed to Miami.

I’m sure there are some, just like there are many times more in China.

Not sure what would happen there. If too many Cubans want to head to Florida, the communist government will not allow a significant portion of their population to just leave. They have to have people to have a country.
