US authorities have identified the two gunmen who opened fire at an anti-Islam art exhibit in Texas and were shot dead by police on Sunday (May 3), and are investigating whether the men were linked to international terror groups.

US authorities have identified the two gunmen who opened fire at an anti-Islam art exhibit in Texas on Sunday (May 3). They are now investigating whether the men were linked to international terror groups.

An Islamic State (IS) militant had referred to them as "brothers", in a tweet posted after the two were shot dead by police. The two men shot and wounded a security officer, before being killed by the police.

The two have been identified as 34-year-old Nadir Soofi and 30-year-old Elton Simpson, whom the FBI have told US media may have been room-mates.

Simpson had been under police surveillance for years and had been investigated for links to terrorism.

Police have also said they believe the pair may be linked to some tweets claiming affiliation with IS, and using the hashtag Texas attack.

Meanwhile, the Council on American Islamic Relations, based here on Capitol Hill, has denounced Sunday's violence.

Ibrahim Hooper, communications director at the Council on American Islamic Relations, said: "Obviously American Muslims, like all Americans, are shocked and saddened by this attack, and repudiate it without reservation. There's no excuse for any kind of violence targeting even a hate event like we saw in Garland, Texas.

"We advise people to ignore this event. We had known about this for months. Pamela Geller, that's her routine, is to try and use inflammatory rhetoric and hate rhetoric to gain free publicity, and the thing she hates most is being ignored. So we told people, 'just ignore her, stay away from it - people have the right to be bigots if they want to be, in our society'."

Meanwhile, lawmakers on Capitol Hill have also reacted to Sunday's attack. Michael McCaul, who is the chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security has said 'we will not be intimidated by violence' and 'we will not bow down to terror'.

One of the two Senators for Texas, Ted Cruz, a Republican senator and a Republican presidential candidate for 2016, has praised law enforcement for their actions on Sunday, saying they 'acted decisively to keep Texans safe'.

1. ISIS posted it was coming before it happened.

2. ISIS took responsibility.

If CAIR doesn’t like you, you’re golden.

Remember, if they are not current members in good standing and are not carrying a valid “International Terrorist” license, this did not happen.
