E.P.A. Carbon Emissions Plan Could Save Thousands of Lives, Study Finds

New carbon emissions standards that were proposed last year for coal-fired power plants in the United States would substantially improve human health and prevent more than 3,000 premature deaths per year, according to a new study.

The study, led by researchers at Syracuse and Harvard Universities, used modeling to predict the effect on human health of changes to national carbon standards for power plants.

Researchers calculated that the changes in the E.P.A. rule could prevent 3,500 premature deaths a year and more than 1,000 heart attacks and hospitalizations from air-pollution-related illness.

Charles T. Driscoll, a professor of environmental systems engineering at Syracuse who was the lead author of the paper, said research began about a year before the E.P.A. proposed the carbon reduction plan. It was a coincidence that one of the researchers’ models so closely resembled the federal proposal.

Billions of lives. it could save more lives than currently exist on the planet. It could save so many lives, it would actually be saving negative lives, which would in fact add to planetary population.

Hey, I thought the world was over populated. Don’t these same people want a population reduction? Or do they just have their heads up their asses?

"Studies" funded by Big Oil are automatically discounted by the Left.

We should throw that right back in their faces and scoff at any "studies" funded by Big Government.

If a study finds it, it must be so.

What a load of Bull Crap! CO2 is not poison, it isn’t even pollution. It is the natural bi-product of breathing and is plant food. Limiting CO2 would have no effect on Heart Attacks or deaths. PERIOD!

Absolutely; but that never seems to be covered in these studies or the media. I wonder why...

This is absolute BULL SH!T. On one hand they forced Obama Care down our throats clearly as a means to control the population and now they are trying to sell to us that they want to save lives by the thuggish EPA to more strictly regulate carbon emissions?? It's just MORE GOVERNMENT CONTROL over our lives that will affect how they want us to live on a daily basis, pure and simple. At what point and what will it take for this fraud regime in the WH to realize that not every one in America is a moron?

Coal shipments in the US are down 16% from what they were last year.

That represents a 16% reduction of electrical power generation from the prior year, nothing is there to fill the gap.

The EPA, and their backers who are using their enviromentalist groups like a sledgehammer, are destroying the energy infrastructure in the US at an alarming rate.

Hey, I thought the world was over populated. Don’t these same people want a population reduction? Or do they just have their heads up their asses?

Don't worry, they plan an enforced increase in abortions to offset any negative lives, the only thing surprising is liberal talking about saving lives when they are in the business of ending them.

So putting out less CO2 will equate to less human deaths? What about benefits to agriculture provided by MORE CO2, which would help people live longer?

Are they talking about soot, perhaps, which I believe we've largely gotten rid of?

DOOMAGE!

3,500 premature deaths a year and more than 1,000 heart attacks and hospitalizations from air-pollution-related illness

Most coal-fired power plants pollute Republican areas while most of the electricity is sold long distance into Democrat areas. There should be a special long distance transmission surcharge to compensate Republicans that die from carbonic anhydride inhalation so Democrats don't have to.
