In some states, laws are written in such a way that if you are stopped for any crime, almost anything you have on you can become a “prohibited weapon”.

I carry a folding pocket knife and have no trouble and break no law. If I am caught committing some crime, suddenly that folded pocket knife can become a “prohibited weapon”.
