Washington (AFP) - The group behind the Prophet Mohammed cartoon event in Texas where police killed two gunmen Sunday has a history of making provocative statements about Islam that it says are aimed at defending "freedom" and critics see as antagonizing Muslims.
The American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI), led by provocative activist Pamela Geller, offered a $10,000 prize in a competition to draw a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed. Depicting the Prophet Mohammed is seen as offensive by many Muslims. Such satirical images have prompted violence in the past including in Paris this year when 12 people were gunned down by Islamists at the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo.
Two gunmen who have yet to be identified were killed by police outside the event after opening fire on a security guard. AFDI supporters say the event was meant to protect the freedom of speech in the United States, which they say is eroding due to violent threats by radicals against people who draw the Prophet Mohammed.
"This is not an anti-Muslim or hate fest or anything like that, it's absurd to even think that way," said group supporter and activist Tom Trento in a video filmed at the competition in Garland, Texas near Dallas...

The SPLC is a left-wing hate group.
You sir have hit the nail on the head.
Google “Islamberg”.
Most sites refer to the one in upstate NY, but there are others including one in York, South Carolina.
What seems to deter closer investigation by state authorities are political correctness, CAIR & the ACLU.
If these were conservative themed camps run by Young Republicans, the Feds would be on them like white on rice.
JMHO
Actually, it is worse. Read post one again. Islam is satan.

Satirical images murder people. We really need to outlaw ALL SATIRICAL IMAGES! ;-)
The MSM is acting like she’s a battered woman who deserved the beating for calling her abuser an abuser.
If only she shut up and let them bash on others, maybe she wouldn’t get hurt!

Don't know about those places, but I do know about Maine. To be honest with you, although we have dropped the secession vote, I really could not care any less about the other 49 states, my concern and love is for Maine and Maine only.
Making fun of Moslems: bad.
Torturing and murdering Christians: good.
Not EVERYTHING. Let’s be fair. They delight in chopping heads, but the thrill never lasts.
In January 17,2015, and in the same public school center, there was a Stand with the Prophet rally by Muslims, a pro-Shariah law event, by supporters Al-Qaida and Isis organized by one of the terrorists implicate in the bombing of the garage of the NY World Trade Center in 1993. I wonder if those who try to blame the organizers of the First Annual Muhammad Art Exhibit and Contest, for the Muslim terrorist attack would have justified if some patriotic American had irrupted in Muslim rally on January 2015 and made a massacre of Islamic terrorists. After all, Americans are profoundly offended by the abuse of our freedoms by those who made the Muslim rally in support of the savages that decapitate, crucify and burned Christians alive, a real grievance more justified than the alleged offense provoked among the Islamic fanatics by the Mohamed cartoons.
