Some pro-Kremlin figures have openly glorified wartime dictator Stalin, while the current patriotic fervour has drowned out unvarnished accounts of Soviet military blunders or infamous "barrier troops" who shot deserters.

- 'Drowned in Russian blood' -

Viktor Astafyev, a writer known for his grim WWII stories, claims that Russia's war losses were much higher than the estimated 27 million and military commanders won the war at the expense of "a huge amount of blood."

"It is they who threw people in the fire like straw," the war veteran wrote in a letter recently published by the independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta, saying "the enemy was bombarded with corpses, was drowned in Russian blood".

[....]

"Russia is locked in an acute confrontation with the West to teach it good manners," he said.

“efforts to belittle Russia’s ww2 role” paraphrased. Who has been doing that? Everybody knows the bulk of human loss in ww2 occurred in Russia.

There is some truth to this, coming directly from German veterans.

The Russians would send wave after wave of peasant infrantry against the German guns, until finally the Wehrmacht would be overwhelmed. Yeah, the Russians won the battle, but at a cost of how many troops?

Yet, a kill ratio between Soviets and Axis was only 1,3 to 1 for some reason and it has shifted into Soviet favor since 1943. What has killed all that many Nazis?

Look for a hi-res video on YouTube on Mother's Day.

The troops will assemble in Red Square.

Vlad will give a speech. "Oorah!"

The troops will answer, "Oorah, oorah, oorah!"

And the parade will be on ...

The Russians often tout their “20 million dead in the Great Patriotic War” (their term for WW II) but what is almost never mentioned is that Stalin was directly responsible for about half that number by murdering his own countrymen. For mass murder in terms of sheer numbers, Hitler was a piker compared to Stalin.

It is even this way that a large part what they claim dead was killed by Stalin and by ratio to population Ukraine lost much more people than Russia. Yet the commies are claiming that since Germany killed so many people in Ukraine then it is unbecoming for Germans to object to Russians killing Ukrainians now.

This even happens in the USA. This is a picture of an American commie cheering on Russians killing Ukrainians.

While their field commanders weren’t as bad as the Chinese in sending very ill equipted troops into the field as they did in Korea. Something which left MacArthur dumbfounded along with the lack of communication and knowledge of Chinese military movement between the two fronts.

The Ruskys weren’t shy about throwing the same but at least having guns and shoes units from areas politically questionable against the Germans.

One such unit comanded by Gen Vassoff Ukrainians turnover and fought the Russians. Which where we get the Nazi thing about the Ukrainians. If we had allowed Chaing Kai Chek bring in his troops in during Korean conflict as “Mac” wanted. Would the turnout might have been different is never discussed.

The Russian army’s SOP for it’s Ukrainian offensives was to empty population centers behind their lines and march the people infront of the Army for their offensives in order to deplete German supplies and clear minefields prior to the Red Army’s engagement. Thus much of the casualties Russia claims were actually citizens killed as a result of their strategic policies.

This policy was seen 1st hand by Americans during the Korean war when Mao did the same.

And it is infuriating that US media were — and are — complicit in covering for Stalin’s atrocities, just as they will be for those of the Soros Administration.

You have been badly misled by Soviet/Russian false propaganda and disinformation, because the Germans never allowed Vlasov’s Army to become an actual military force until the very end of the war and had almost no effect except against the Germans.

Lieutenant General Andrey Andreyevich Vlasov led the Russkaya osvoboditel’naya armiya, or Vlasov’s Army in only one engagement against the Red Army on 11 April 1945 for only three days before retreating to Prague, Czechoslovakia, turned against the German’s to help Czechoslovakian insurgents, and unsuccessfully attempting to surrender to Patton’s U.S. Third Army.

Vlasov’s early career in the Red Army during the Russian Civil War in 1919 saw him engaged against the White Russians, Ukrainians, and other anti-Communist forces in the Southern Front.

The several hundred thousand Russians, Byelorussians, Ukrainians, Cossacks, and other Soviet citizens who fought against the Red Army were the 77 battalions who served as labor battalions and rear area security troops within the German Army from 1942 to 1945. Lt. Gen Vlasov had no control over any but a little more than two divisions worth of those battalions until the organization of the ROA (POA) in the period of November 1944 to April 1945. The Ukrainians were only a fraction of the Russian volunteers, the Ukrainian nationalists constituted only a fraction of the Ukrainian volunteers, and the actual NAZI Ukrainian nationalists were a fraction of the Ukrainian nationalist volunteers. In other words, the number of actual pro-NAZI Ukrainians who served in combat against the Red Army’s millions of soldiers were at most a few hundred to no more than a few thousand individuals versus a couple of hundred thousand Russian, Byelorussian, and other non-Ukrainians who volunteered to serve in the German Army.

Given the way in which the Red Army and the Soviet Union murdered millions of Ukrainians in the years before 22 June 1941, it can hardly be surprising to find some few Ukrainians agreed to get out of the deadly POW camps to serve in the German Army against the government and Red Army who murdered so many members of their families and communities. It is more surprising that there were not many more non-NAZI Soviet-Ukrainian POWs who agreed to serve in the German Army against the Red Army.

There were large numbers of ChiCom (Chinese Communist) POWs in Korea who wanted desperately to defect to the South Koreans and Nationalist Chinese forces.

Re Vlasov.Tanks !
Thought it there was a L there but wasn’t sure so I went with Vassoff. Knew I’d be corrected. There were some glowing German accounts that some of those units did engage in fighting the Russians which does account for their support and existence. The Prague episode was one of course after which they also drove the SS out. That politically motivated prohibited connection between Patton and Vlasov never gets mentioned even after Patton’s “accident” likewise Chang and MacArthur’s replacement .

I have a 1950s US newspaper clipping that shows Nikita Khrushchev broke the story to the 20th Soviet Congress!
