Apparently, the deceased was alive and had an un-severed spine when he was placed in the police vehicle.
When he came out, his spine was severed.
Spines do not sever themselves.
Would you be so kind as to direct me to the document(s) supporting that assertion?
Freddie, crazed out of his mind on the heroin he swallowed, severed his own spine by throwing himself off the walls of the van, falling and breaking his neck. And, even if that isn't what happened, it could have and there is reasonable doubt.
Spines do not sever themselves.
In the midst of all of this, I think we should all consider the video of the arrest, what there is of it.
According to witness Kevin Moore, Mr. Grey had apparently been tackled(?), tazered, and was folded up 'like origami' ;
Actually they do. All you need to have your spine sever itself is to deliberately throw your head into a big bolt on the door of a prisoner van while trying to make it look like the police beat you before you were put in there.
Try it. See if I'm right.
I am crying thinking about what that poor innocent yute went through... /s
Apparently, his spine was not completely severed...about 80% from latest reports.
Spines do not sever themselves.
Leaks from the coroner's report indicate that his neck wound matched the shape of an exposed bolt on the door in the back of the van. How his body impacted the door is an open question.
Other leaks indicate that the police gave him a "rough ride." If so, their actions would have contributed to Gray's death, which would warrant a manslaughter charge, at most.
The part of the story that both sides tend to agree on in that the victim was not restrained by a seal belt while in a seated position.
did he became angry or belligerent enough to start crashing around and head butting the van interior where he was confined but NOT restrained.
MY POINT: The easiest place to snap or damage the spine is just below the brain stem where the spine begins. The victim COULD have UNINTENTIONALLY did this to himself.
If true... he probably went into shock and never fully recovered consciousness until he died, which I believe occurred a week after the incident.
