NASHVILLE, TN (AP) - Gov. Bill Haslam has signed legislation that allows Tennesseans to get a lifetime handgun-carry permit.
During the recent legislative session, the House passed the measure 90-3, and the Senate approved it 30-2. Haslam signed it this week.
Before the new law, a permit was valid for four years.
Now, Tennessee residents at least 21 years of age can pay $500 for a lifetime permit. A criminal record check will be done every five years.

$500 is kind of steep.
I think fees should go. $500 for something that’s already yours.

For just $500, black people can get a lifetime license to eat in “white people only” cafeterias.
For just $500, citizens can get a lifetime license to be permitted to discuss politics in public. For another $500 they can get a lifetime license to print and distribute what they think, even if it is offensive, with some limitations.
For just $500, citizens can get a lifetime license to worship in a church or synagogue, or not, and otherwise fully participate in their faith.

I wish Florida would do this, we have a 7 year renewal, I agree with the comments that the regulations should not exist at all, but as Cruz says via Reagan, go after the half loaf once you got it go back for the rest, this strategy has been working for the most part all over the country.
My cousin in Indiana said they have this lifetime permit and his was in neighborhood of $125-$150. $500 is pretty steep!
$500 is a hefty tax.

It is.
Looking at the Tn.gov website on the existing regulations, a 4 year CC is $115, with $50 to renew each time. If done that way, $500 would cover 36 years. Since I’m 54 and probably won’t live to be 90, statistically, it’s cheaper to renew 4 years at a time. Until they raise fees, that is.
I just moved to beautiful Tennessee. Taxes and the people are definitely better than Mexifornia. BUT there are some fees/taxes that are still confiscatory, like the cost of a LLC. All states have to get money somehow, I suppose. At least property taxes are very low and no state income tax except on dividends and capital gains.
