Watch this fantastic speech by Missouri State Senator Kurt Schaefer on why we need an Article V Convention of States to rein in federal bureaucracy, federal spending, and federal career politicians:

My question remains to all who seek a to rewrite the Constitution, What would you change, exactly and why?
My top items would be
1. instituting term limits on Congress, or merely allowing the states to do so if they so chose
2. Instituting term limits on the judiciary, or short of that, allowing either the Congress or the states, or either, to overturn a judicial decision
3. requiring that any executive regulation must be passed by the Congress before it becomes effective, thus returning the legislative power to the legislature.
A superb list, but one that can more easily be handled within the state or by, as the city councilman from Windham, ME would undoubtedly support, the 338 Lapua Magnum rifle. ( see this: http://www.wgme.com/news/features/top-stories/stories/city-councilor-apologizes-comments-lepage-27084.shtml )
Now let me make this clear, if I supported the that, it would have already happened. I only bring it up so as to show that a CC is not necessary to accommodate you list.
Rescind the 17th. amendment..!!
In order to bring the power of regulation back to the states... It would be a big step in an effort to regain control of our massive out of control centralize government that's Hell-Bent on destroying our liberties....
MHO....and others also...!
When we passed term limits here in Missouri it didn’t take long to produce the legislature like we have to day. Dominate and conservative that is VETO proof.
What remains of our republic is in extremis.
Obama is a tyrant. He increasingly writes the law; he executes what he wants the law to be; his judges do his will.
On top of it all, we have the God-given and constitutional right to frame our government.
Since you refuse to absorb what informed posters have to say at FR, do yourself a favor and read the first chapter to Mark Levin's Liberty Amendments. It is available at his website.
Otherwise, enjoy your ignorance.
“...What would you change and why?...”
-
Here is a brief start:
-
We should not be governed by career politicians.
Repeal the 17th Amendment, and apply the same langage of the 22nd Amendment
(limit of 2 terms for the president) to the House and to the Senate.
-
Legislation should not be passed by defeated politicians.
Congress should be adjourned from November 1st - January 1st.
-
Require approval from the House and the Senate for all federal legislation
and “sunset laws” not to exceed 10 years from the date of issue.
-
Non-Citizens should not have represention in the federal government.
Change the way seats in the House are appropriated by having the census count
“citizens” instead of “residents” or “inhabitants”.
-
Repeal the 16th Amendment and sustitute a National Sales Tax
on all retail goods and services to be collected by the States.
-
The Supreme Court should not have the final word.
Provide for congressional over-ride of the Supreme Court
with 2/3 vote of the House and the Senate (not subject to presidential veto).
-
The Supreme Court has no authority to write, re-write, alter,
or amend congressional legislation or administrative law.
If the Supreme Court finds any portion of a bill, law, legislation,
or regulation to be unconstitutional, that ruling must be applied
to the entire bill, law, legislation, or regulation.
-
The President has no authority to write, re-write, alter,
or amend congressional legislation or administrative law.
If the President finds any portion of a bill, law, legislation,
or regulation to be objectionable, his veto must be applied
to the entire bill, law, legislation, or regulation.
-
Require Presidential Pardons to be approved by both houses of congress.
-
Clarify and restore the original intent to “the commerce clause”
and to the meaning of “promote the general welfare” and “provide for the general welfare”.
-
“I only bring it up so as to show that a CC is not necessary to accommodate you list.”
I don’t understand your comments. The states cannot institute term limits on federal officials. That would require a constitutional amendment. And since the congress wouldn’t pass one, the only available option is a convention of the states.
The same with the other suggestions. As I see it, no matter how many “good people” we elect to federal office to make changes, they never do. So I’m for the changes to be forced upon them by the people through the states.
Thanks. Will do. Good speech!
The House raises taxes. Every two years as I’m sure you know they are all up for re-election.
To summarize from a previous post by GraceG:
1. Elect More Republicans - Failed due to RINO/Uni-party confluence.
2. Article V Convention of States to propose Amendments - Needed to try to take power from the federal government back to the states and reel in the federal leviathan.
3. State Nullification - Last ditch effort to try to take power back from the federal monster, though by this point it may be too late.
4. State Secession - Could either end up peaceably like the breakup of the Czechoslovakia in 1993 or a brutal:
5. Civil War II like the first one.... The longer we wait on #2, the more likely #3, then #4 and finally #5. .
So, do we do nothing and just wait for # 5?
Quick review: We need 34 states to pass an application, then Congress shall, by law, call a Convention of States as soon as it receives applications from 2/3 of the State Legislatures. That's 34 states. We now have 30 working on it. Amendments are proposed and voted on at the convention. Each Amendment must be ratified by ¾ of the states in order to become part of the US Constitution. Thats 38 states.
There are far more political and legal constraints on a runaway convention than on a runaway Congress. - Robert Natelson
Most FReepers are aware of these links, but I post anyway for review and for people new to Article V. It is our responsibility to make Article V the most understood aspect of the US Constitution.

What I’d like to see:
An amendment that defines marriages as between one man, and one woman, and that states may make civil unions but are not required to honor those of other states in this matter. (Why- because the basic foundation of any successful society is the traditional nuclear family- man, woman, children. And the states, if they wish, should have the ability to allow the queers to have their own legal partnerships of some sort. But no other state should have to recognize that or deal with it if the people there decide otherwise.)
An amendment that requires states to pay the salaries and benefits, if any, of their own Congressional representatives. (Why? There is an enormous conflict of interest here- allowing someone the ability to determine their own salary and perks at the taxpayer expense is a formula for bankruptcy.)
An amendment that requires the election of Federal judges for two 4 year terms. (The time has come, I think, that we recognize that the Federal judiciary legislates from the bench, and that if this must be, then they should come under the same checks as the legislative branch- elections and set terms of office.)
An amendment that limits the terms of the House of Representatives to 4 terms, and those of the Senate to 3 terms, and neither can have consecutive terms. (Why? Because power corrupts- and few escape its influence, especially after long exposure. The Founders had it right in desiring a Senate that could serve as a body of wise elders, so my thought is that they should have a longer time- but not unlimited.)
An amendment that requires that the Federal expenditures be equal to or less than revenue, and excess revenue be used only to pay off debt or failing that, be returned to the source of the revenue. (Why? To get Federal spending under control, and to reduce the size and scope of Federal debt.)
An amendment that defines prayers at public events, meetings, or other gatherings at a state or local level as outside the jurisdiction of the Federal judiciary. (Why? If the people of a locality wish to have an invocation before their football game, then they should have one.)
An amendment that defines the matter of abortion as the province of the states only. (Again, the Federal judiciary has often supported evil in this matter. If a left-wing state wants to practice this form of human sacrifice, it is for them to decide. It is not just, however, to force others to participate in this evil.)
That’s just a few.....
