When police spotted Freddie Gray and he took off running through his Baltimore neighborhood, officers made a split-second decision to give chase, setting in motion his death in custody and rioting in the streets.
Fleeing from police is not, by itself, illegal in America, and the U.S. Supreme Court has made clear that in safe neighborhoods, people not suspected of criminal activity can ignore a police officer who approaches them, even to the point of walking away.
But courts have set a different standard for places where street crime is common, ruling that police can chase, stop and frisk people if their location contributes to a suspicion of criminal activity. [ ]
There are limits to this leeway: The Supreme Court and lower courts have repeatedly required police to have some justification for stopping or questioning someone in a public place. But several legal experts say that because he was standing in a drug-infested area, Grays decision to bolt on April 12 may have justified the decision by four bicycle-riding officers to pursue and detain him.

Baltimore simply defines a switchblade, as one with a automatic spring on it. I have several[protech, crkt, benchmade] of which are siting on my table. Designed for emt, police, and military use. Plenty of FReepers have such, nor should they be banned.
The depends on what COLOR you are. /s
Are you talking about lockblades or switchblades? Were those knives designed for fighting? Switchblades open with the push or slide of a button and no finger pressure on the blade or attachment to the blade. There were side-opening switchblades from south of the southern border and others from Europe that slid straight out from the end of the handle—both cheap, fragile and not suitable for fighting IMO.
One of the best short fighting knives would probably be the old FairbairnSykes type.

Switchblades are extremely convenient for one hand use, (if well made) and the Airborne has always had them for use in parachute jumping, although in real life we never got to see the military issue.
You have some good ones it sounds like.
A nice little 2 incher, easily reachable, sure is handy for little cutting chores.
I have one of those, bright orange, has a sharp hooked blade for cutting para cord.
So more and more it looks like it looked from the beginning. The cops decided to give him a beating and he died.
