Maybe you should have been flunked in reading comprehension. Who said anything about TEN weeks? It was two weeks, ten classes.

And you would have really ‘helped me’ by keeping me from graduating that semester if I had dropped your class or taken an incomplete. Instead all of my teachers let me catch up and I made straight A’s in all my classes, making the Dean’s List.

And if I had not graduated when I did, I would not have taken the job with the DOD (engineering) when I did. Which meant I would not have met my future wife when I did, and we would not have been married for almost 48 years.

So exactly how would you have ‘helped me’ if you had flunked or forced me out of your class?

This father is under the erroneous impression that his kids are HIS kids. They’re not; they belong to the government. If he truly cares about ‘em he’ll pull them out and find a good homeschool program where they might actually learn something.

Fifteen years ago, when I started homeschooling, there was a debate about homeschoolers receiving some sort of tax credit or funding. We were saving the tax payers a ton of money by educating our children ourselves. And paying out of pocket for the privilege.

Very quickly, we realized that, by accepting the money, we were giving up our liberty. If we were working off of somebody else’s dime, then we had to play by their rules.

So we said no to the money and no to the tax credit.

We wanted liberty and we were willing to pay for it.

I get so frustrated with parents who don’t take responsibility for their own children’s education, then think that they have any power over the tax payers’ funds.

You can educate your kids any way that you want - providing that you’re really willing to take full responsibility for your children’s education. That includes financial.

Because of this, my views have changed toward child support. As it stands, the man pays and the woman has no obligation to show how she used that money for their child’s upkeep. She can do what she wants with it. That’s not right. He’s paying for his child to be cared for. She should have to show that she’s using that money to care for the child.

People on welfare are living off the gov’t dime. That means that, if the gov’t asks for it, they have to submit to drug tests - just as employers have the right to ask the same of their employees.

And, when my grown children moved back in with us and needed money - I made the rules. My house, my money - my freaking rules. You don’t like it, support yourself.

The one exception to this is social security. That *is* their money. They earned it and paid into the system. Military benefits were earned. They belong to the individual.

But charity is charity.

Most homeschoolers get this. That’s why we don’t accept even a tax break.

Sorry I miss read. Ten classes is significant.

I’m sorry, your life would not have ended if you hadn’t graduated on your time schedule (I was going to say on time but it comes as news to me that there is a time schedule to life). You seek special dispensation. A It smacks of the same tone as the specials under the ADA act. Others had to meet the requirements and you got a free pass but who cares about them or any degree of fairness.

DOD. Good for you. I was on the working end of the weapons and I know what it means when someone isn’t there, no matter the reason. Do we hold it against someone when they are dead or injured? No. But if you join us sometime later, no matter the reason, you no longer have your position, you must earn it back.

My help would have been to advise you to drop the class or taken an incomplete. Had you died I would have agreed to an honorary degree. Over 100 students a semester; no specials, no rewrites, no late work. Your definition of help is spoon feeding you. Sorry. No.

I have to admit that I am entertained by your anger over a slight that never occurred. I may have failed reading comprehension but not civility. You think I am a rotten bastard because I play by the rules no matter. Fine. You’ve had your wonderful life because someone did you a favor. Fine. Enjoy it.

It is easy to see that you are one of those “By the Book” so-called teachers. Fairness? What does fairness have to do with a child’s education when there is an opportunity to LEARN SOMETHING! I, too, missed up to six weeks at a time, but made up my assignments and tests when I returned. I graduated Valedictorian so obviously the missed time did me no harm. YOU, in your tunnel vision by the book blindness, would have deprived me of the honor I worked for my entire scholastic life, to graduate first in my class! No wonder our school systems are in such dire straights with teachers like you! FYI Education comes from more places than a book!
