Why would someone in the present have 6 kids as a “single mom”, and this was so rare throughout history as to be non-existent...
Could it be that there is some incentive today that didn’t exist in the past?
Or perhaps some lack of disincentive now that existed in the past?

Yes, of course we'd prefer that the father, who we know nothing about (er..criminal record? Lifestyle?) would be in the home.
It is better for the children if the "male influence" in their home is positive. In this case, Mom seems to have the ability to open the cans of whoop ass all by herself. The most important thing she did was get off her butt, discipline and shame her child.
I get so tired of you all blaming and judging single parents.
I am pretty involved with our black community through my son’s basketball (he is frequently the only white kid in the leagues he plays in). The moms are generally not the problem. The lack of dads is. That is literally the difference between a good kid and a bad kid 90% of the time. Even if they are separated, the kids with dads that are heavily involved and engaged are better for it. When you are in those neighborhoods, take the importance of 2 parents in a middle-class white child’s life and magnify it by 1,000.
And I get tired of single mothers thinking they are exhalted. If they could make good decisions, they would pick better mates or not download six kids that they can’t pay for.

I know this is a culture unto itself, and desperate times call for desperate measures, but I couldn’t help but notice that now, all of a sudden, it’s ok to rough up your kid.
Too bad there are few fathers around these communities. I can’t help but think that if these people hadn’t produced all of these fatherless boys for the past many years, things would be different.

Your logic seems to suggest that single mothers, all single mothers, cannot pay for their children.
Let me guess..you came from a nuclear family, are still part of one, and any children you may have also have their own nuclear family. Lucky you.
My mother, who turned 90 yesterday, divorced my dad and became a single parent of 7 kids when I turned 17. There were 5 kids younger than I. So we survived 17 years of wishing she would be a single parent. Once that happened, our lives became immediately better. Oh, and nobody paid for us. She worked, we worked, and yeah, when the occasion called for it, she’d slap us upside the head. Not often, just enough to remind us who the boss was.

I see what you are saying, Judy, but disagree. IMHO, this woman wanted to protect her son. If you notice on the video, he walked off.. away from her. She used open slaps.. not fists. He walked away and she followed him.. she was going to get him home. For what it is worth, if I caught my son throwing rocks at some disturbance... I’d smack the living hell out of him too. I’d fear for his life and the shame that he was participating in that mayhem.. yeah, I’d smack the taste right out of his mouth.

What I am suggesting is that the criminal liberal news media holds these single welfare brood mares up as something to be desired, when just the opposite is the case.
Single mothers then think it is a positive thing to have six kids by six baby daddies and our feminized society holds this behavior up as acceptable and indeed, preferable.
She appears to be doing her best in the absence of a father. Likely not one of them knows or lives with their fathers.
