If only it had a delayed fuse and blew up in his face!!
Maybe he's holding on to the cannister since it might contain some of Al Capone's missing wealth that Rivera thought would be revealed after he dramatically opened the gangster's vault on national TV some years back.
(The vault was empty except for a couple of empty whiskey bottles, snicker, snicker....).
