n Monday and Tuesday, games between the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox at Camden Yards were cancelled due to safety concerns related to protests and civil unrest in Baltimore. Because of a lack of common off days among teams in the typical Major League Baseball schedule, additional cancellations would have been nearly impossible to make up, but the solution is still stunning: Wednesday's game will be played in front of an empty stadium. From an Orioles press release:
After consultation with Major League Baseball and city and local officials, tomorrow's game between the Orioles and the Chicago White Sox will begin at 2:05 p.m. ET and will be closed to the general public.

The Nationals are on the road this week. Why not move the game 30 miles down the road to their ballpark?
But why an empty stadium?
Why not just open the doors? And make money selling food and drinks?
Yes, and the stadium is nearly 25 years old. And has had thousands of games played in it.
Take me out to the ballgame.. Take me out to the park
I dont care if I get my head cracked
Shut the game down and Ill never come back
OHHHHH..
Take me out to the ballgame

Thanks You Thank You Verry Much!!
Now Let’s Plaaay Ballll!!
Problem solved. Inflatable hot dogs and beer?
I was thinking something similar. An empty stadium, I suppose the food vendors on the concourse will simply not open. This is somebody's livlihood. This kind of stuff has a ripple effect, not just on the vendors in the stadium; but, on the restaurants and bars surrounding the stadium, who cater to fans before and after the games.

Peter Angelos hate the Nats. He’s still pissed off they encroached his territory by moving into D.C. in ‘05.
It will look like the last couple of NASCAR races.
Oh I don’t know about that. They had more than 30,000 in a snowstorm in Detroit last week.

Cardinal’s home games are almost always sold out or nearly so. 45,000 - 48,000. Something I’ve noticed as a Cardinal fan though is that black faces are very scarce in the stadium.
Comerica park sells out at right around 45,000 and they’ll do it again and again throughout the season.
I agree it is a primarily white and hispanic crowd.
Partially true but the SF Giants sell out all
games all season and have pretty much done so
for years.
I went to a couple of A’s home games (many years ago) that were like that—maybe 2,000 fans in attendance. Still didn’t manage to catch any foul balls.
All foul balls will be donated to the Baltimore police to throw at riotous yutes.
The players who do not maintain their permanent residence in Maryland do not have to report their out-of-state income on their Maryland tax returns, and since Florida has no income tax they don't have to report this income on ANY state tax return.
So White Sox/Orioles was postponed again today. They will play tomorrow, in a game CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC, NO FANS IN THE STANDS. There have been nearly empty stands before but I don’t think this has happened before, possibly ever, in the history of professional sports. Way to go, Baltimore!
“There have been nearly empty stands before but I dont think this has happened before, possibly ever, in the history of professional sports”
Not in the USA, but it has in Europe a few times.
I just read that. What a joke. Wow...
OTOH, the O’s owner, Peter Angelos, is a big time RAT, so screw him.
