Facebook Is Not Letting the Story of the Vet Who Killed a Cat With a Bow and Arrow Go
Texas Monthly ^ | April 22, 2015 | Dan Solomon

By now, you’ve probably heard of Kristen Lindsey. She’s the veterinarian from Brenham who’s given more bad press to the state than Blue Bell after she posted a picture on Facebook of herself, smiling and holding an arrow with a dead cat on the end of it:

Nobody here in Tampa Florida will give you a trap except the county. They told me the waiting list was 3 months.

I was raised on the family ranch in SW Texas-bigger place, more cattle and goats than here-these places are usually small-less than 20-25 acres-but the livestock and veggie gardens is at least partial livelihood, not a hobby-as they say, this ain’t no fancy place-people aren’t here for the golf course or pool...

A lot of us are people who are going galt, or just back to our roots because we are okay with being off-grid if it all goes to hell and remote is far better than a city.

I even keep my dog inside when I’m at work, or anytime unless I’m with her, and my 3 cats never go out-the same thing happens here-they end up as predator take-out food -the river and woods are a favorite place of mine to walk, but they are also coyote, feral hog and mountain lion territory, and certainly not safe for a domestic pet.

Most of the chipped, ear clipped neutered feral cats that were here have found homes in barns doing rodent work-at least the smart ones have.

I still find it unbelievable that it was a cat. That is not cat behavior. Anyway, we had ferals on the farm as well as pets, and that is because cats served a useful purpose as to vermin control. However, there were still instances when the ferals numbered way too many, and we had to clean em out or reduce the population because of over population and disease, etc. I am a cat lover, and dog lover, but there are times when these things need to be controlled. But what occurred with this vet is troubling.

I disagree.

Just ONE of her mistakes was posting it on Facebook, and as a grinning, leering veterinarian (who has a boss that owns the business and has paying customers, many of whom likely own cats as pets) holding up a pet cat with an arrow through its head is not good for business, so I would be surprised if she hadn’t been fired.

Her mistake was shooting that cat in the first place. By all accounts, the cat was a well fed cat that appeared to me to be living on a farm of some kind, if the video was correct.

People who own farms often (but not always) let their cats roam outside. This looked like a semi-rural area.

That “vet” should have had a solid visual on the cat before she shot, and if she did, she wouldn’t have mistaken it for a feral.

I live in a neighborhood with civilized neighbors who don’t pull out a bow and arrow, a .22 or other and shoot other neighbors’ pets because they happen to walk across their front lawn or be in the back yard.

Ridiculous? What would be ridiculous is if she gets to keep her license.

And how do you know the cat, if picked up by animal control, would not have been adopted by someone?

Why bother the cat at all? For the number of reasons I have already mentioned!
1. It’s her property, if she doesn’t want it there she can get rid of it at her discretion.
2. Cats spread flees.
3. Cats poop in your yard. Maybe she had a dog like we do that she didn’t want eating cat poop.
3a. Cat poop spreads disease and parasites.
3b. Cat poop dog breath is beyond disgusting.
4. People have a responsibility to keep their pets on their own property.

Whew! Have witnessed that many times. Plus roll in rotting carcasses. It is the nutrients, taste, whatever. Hey, hogs loved black dirt and chicken manure, among other things. Oh yes, and let’s not forget the peeps who love to kiss Bowser on the lips. LOL!

I think they are just not used to seeing a dead animal. They prefer to pay someone else to do their dirty work.

Seriously, I never thought I’d see a farmer get blamed for predators eating their livestock around here.

I couldn’t disagree with you more.

If she owns the Veterinary service, then that is her business.

But if she works for someone who answers to paying customers (many with cats as pets) I wouldn’t be surprised if she was fired on the spot, public outrage or not.

If my vet had someone working for her that would have the possibility of handling my cat, I wouldn’t take my cat there, to a grinning idiot who shoots cats in the head with a bow and arrow, then posts it on Facebook.

I wouldn’t want someone that stupid working for me if I owned a business, especially if I had to answer to my customers. And she clearly has some screws loose in any case, when you read about her.

This thing was a living chainsaw! You're right that it was not like any cat I've ever seen. It may have been diseased or it was just plain crazy but either one would explain why someone got rid of it.

Oh, well this particular cat might have been adopted, at the expense of another cat, and the hundreds of cats that are in shelters across the country because people can’t be responsible for them and let them wander all over the damn place. What is so difficult about keeping your own animals on your own property? Now, obviously I understand that accidents happen, animals can be escape artists. But it should not be common place to let any “owned” animal just wander anywhere it wants to go. I don’t allow my dogs to wander and poop or do anything else on property that I do not own. I don’t like cats. I don’t hate the either. I don’t want them on my property for a number of reasons listed previously.
I suspect you would not be appreciative of my dogs roaming your property.

I had a feral cat have its litter beside my garage. My neighbor wanted me to take the litter to the vet. I offer the litter up to them but had no takers.

I made hte mistake of giving the cat water and food. The next day the cat attacked me. It ended up moving its litter off into the trees someplace.
