White House Mulls Shift in Hostage Ransom Policy

The families of American hostages held by foreign kidnappers could soon be allowed to pay ransoms or raise money to free their loved ones without fear of federal prosecution. That's according to a recommendation by a White House-ordered advisory group.

"There will be absolutely zero chance of any family member of an American held hostage overseas ever facing jail themselves, or even the threat of prosecution, for trying to free their loved ones," said one of three senior officials familiar with the hostage policy team's ongoing review.

The advisory group interviewed many who have experienced this first hand, including the parents of journalist James Foley.

"If we can have families free to do what it takes to get their loved ones out, that's certaintly a first step," Diane Foley, James Foley's mother, said.

She says her family was told very cleary three times that it was illegal for them to try and ransom their son, who was later beheaded by ISIS jihadists in Syria.

There are several Americans still being held hostage around the world, including Caitlan Coleman, her Canadian husband and their toddler.

If President Barack Obama accepts the recommendations, the government would essentially look the other way if families try to pay ransom.

Depending on who you ask (Ollie North, David Hunt, Tony Shaeffer), Obama paid 5 top terrorist officers and anywhere between 5 million to 5 billion dollars for Bergdahl.

And he’s going to lecture others on paying for hostages? The man is a bad joke.

(Lt. Colonel Tony Shaffer, author of The Last Line, and Ret. Col. David Hunt joined Bill O’Reilly to give an update on the Bowe Bergdahl prisoner swap. Lt. Colonel Shaffer told Bill the Obama administration paid $5 billion and released five top Taliban Gitmo detainees in exchange for deserter Bergdahl...)

It is a mistake to negotiate. It encourages kidnappings. That’s always been true. Obama continues to make terrible decisions....except for those receiving the cash in the Islamic world.

Obama is about to boost the kidnapping business to heights achieved only by the firearms business.

Looking for ways to transfer cash to kidnappers.

It’s a new government program:

“Kash for Kidnappers”

So if some group holds a hostage, then any one here can send any amount of money to the hostage-holder without question?

Yeah, that’s a great idea.

Giving Iran billions to develop nukes is not enough, so Obama is now encouraging Americans to privately fund terrorists. The socialist occupying our White House is the most evil person who has threatened the United States in our entire history. Obama and his supporters disgust me.

I thought I saw someplace where the Weinstein (victim in drone strike(??)) family HAD paid a ransom($250,000).

Is oBoSo going to charge her?

I am really getting ‘tired’ of searching these outlandish releases from the White Hut and BO malmisadministration looking for the sarcasm tag.

These clowns are definitely sick, Clinton may have led a ‘frat house’ when it comes to all the dillydallying etc but these clowns just prove what happens when the adults are sent home and the idiots get to run the show.....

Alloed? Probably encouraged. It is a great over to get walking around money to the various jihadis out there and get a sputtering industry up and running.

It is no mistake on Hussein’s part. It is how he helps fund the jihadis.

Muslims have been taking hostages for ransom since the time of their prophet.
Thomas Jefferson sent the Navy and Marines over to “the shore of Tripoli” in the 1800’s to put a stop to muslims taking Americans hostage.

Jefferson had the Koran that Ellison used for his swearing in as means of understanding his enemy, not because he had any admiration of Islam. Quite the opposite.

“The families of American hostages held by foreign kidnappers could soon be allowed to pay ransoms...”

The NEXT STEP is the US taxpayers funding the transactions for them.

The Obama mindset would have allowed families of American POW’s to pay ransom to the Germans to secure their release during WWII.
