Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) didn't think much of the Baltimore riots that erupted in protest of the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody. Speaking with Bob Schieffer on Sunday's Face the Nation on CBS, Cummings spoke of the violence as a "situation" that "could've been a lot worse."
The violence that erupted in Cummings's city caused the entire crowd gathered at the Baltimore Orioles' stadium to be stuck in lock down mode while the "protestors" raved outside smashing cop cars and hurling flaming barrels. Cummings, who was there at the time, said he had a direct hand in dispersing the crowd by making an on-air announcement to encourage those involved in the havoc to go home.
Those rioters, in Cummings assessment, were mostly comprised of out-of-towners:
I've got to give it to the citizens of Baltimore. I was there all day, and it was very peaceful all day -- thousands of people. And then at the end, there were a few people who said, 'We're gonna turn this city down, we're gonna close it down.' And the next thing you know we had a few people - mainly from out of town - to come and to start beating up on police cars and throwing all kinds of projectiles. But for the most part, it could've been worse.
Then Cummings declared to Schieffer:
This whole police community relation situation, Bob, is the civil rights cause for this generation, no doubt about it. This thing here -- the cell phone with the camera -- this has caused a whole new situation where a lot of the police interaction with citizens is being recorded. That used to not be the case when you and I were growing up.
Cummings warned that if the police departments aren't taken apart, this situation will only get worse.
When asked if he is pleased with how the investigation into Gray's death is going, Cummings answered in the affirmative. He added with a grin, "I'm also pleased that the federal government is involved, too."
They want to federalize all police departments...I would speculate at the reason why, but...
Cumming is a racist.
Cummings is a useless tool, as corrupt as he is stupid!
Cummings is used to downplaying stuff: like the Constitution, POTUS lawlessness, Lois Lerner’s abuse of her authority.....
How can the protestors, in every case, always be from out of town? Are there really that many roving bands of protestors with that much time? Do the people who live in these places with the riots never protest the thing they claim to oppose in their own towns and cities?
It’s too bad that no one in the media will ever ask the moron what he thinks of these “protestors for civil rights” throwing things at a white girl in a wheel chair.
America will never begin to rebuild until we stop pretending these idiots are normal, regular, well meaning, half-way intelligent Americans.
If it wasn’t for political correctness and their black skin people like Elijah Cummings, Hank Johnson, Maxine Waters and Sheila Jackson-Lee wouldn’t be able to get a job on a garbage truck.
And Barack Obama would still be laying around smoking pot and snorting cocaine with his Choom Gang back in Hawaii.
Instead of doing it in the White house.
How? See the Federal Travel Regulations. Moving federal employees and contractors, including protesters working on GSA contract, is a fairly trivial matter.
Hey, it ain’t nothin’ — da b***h is just a honky. Not like it’s real peeps.
Cummings is at the lowest point of the “Bell Curve”
i.e. He has the IQ of a Watermelon.
Yes and hates every inch of are White bodies.
Bruthas always stick togetha.
Damn, he had time left over from pimping for His Arrogance to take part in a violent demonstration?
Reminds me of the old joke. A man is watching a strip club burn and the police ask him if he saw anything, “Nah, I am not from around here, I am from Balmer, Marlind “
90 percent of Cummins gives all the rest of him a bad name.
