There have been cross dressing men throughout history ( Ed Wood, a couple of Dauphins of France, Caligula, a colonial era governor of N. Y. ) and probably a lot more unknown ones, which predate B.C. pills, etc. ! Some people have just been born crazy/influenced by something weird; however, they, for the most part, tried to keep it "quite" !
Today, many people want to be "famous" ( or their parents do ! ) for ANY reason. With the new technologies, this has become easier and easier to do and for all the WRONG reasons !
