Honoring those who have served before.

A supergroup is a music group whose members are already successful as solo artists or as part of other groups or well known in other professions. Usually used in the context of rock and pop music, the term has been applied to other musical genres such as The Three Tenors in opera.

The term is sometimes applied retrospectively when several members from a group later achieve notable success in their own right. Supergroups are sometimes formed as side projects and thus not intended to be permanent, while other times can become the primary project of the members' careers. Charity supergroups, where prominent musicians perform or record together in support of a particular cause have been common since the 1980s.

Saturday morning coffee bump.

It's going OK. Today I mow the lawn and take Bo out to the lake.

Tomorrow and Monday are going to be days off for all that. Colonoscopy prep tomorrow, Colonoscopy tomorrow.

B Major...Eek.

Tough on the Piano.
Worse on the Guitar.

Not so bad on Bass...just put your hand in the right position and play.

The original "Who's Next?" by the great Tom Lehrer..and given whatg's happenign in the Middle East today..the lyrics are more appropriate than when then were written almost 50 years ago

What is often surprising about history is how some events take on iconic status, while others, often of equal if not superior military accomplishment and significance, are all but forgotten.

Two examples:

1. Churchill ordered the Royal Navy to destroy the French fleet in 1940. He would not accept Admiral Darlan's statement that he (Darlan) would scuttle the French battleships, and after several deadlines had past, the RN took out the French battleships (in port). Some 1,300 French sailors were killed. Many French considered Churchill a war criminal. The French fleet was modern, and dangerous, and in the hands of the German Navy might have altered the Battle of the Atlantic.

2. Everyone..even today's college students, knows about Pearl Harbor, but 13 months earlier, the British launched a carrier attack at the Italian naval based at Taranto, sinking one BB and severely damaging two others. Even using all but already obsolete very slow torpedo bombers, this demonstrated the supremacy of carrier aviation over the battleship as the dominant factor in future naval warfare. The Japanese studied this raid, and emulated it in the attack at Pearl Harbor.

Very much enjoyed your comments, and the links. Many thanks.

Have you ever seen this?: Glenn Gould: Bach - Goldberg Variations The video of the actual recording session.

The most amazing pianist I've ever heard was Alicia de Larrocha....her recordings of Granados' "Goyescas" are legendary. Here's a sample

I had the good fortune to meet her in 1969, when I was stationed in Spain. What astonished me then, and still does to this day, is how very tiny her hands were..incredibly small. I've played some piano, of and on over the years...I can palm a basketball...and when I shook her hand, her entire hand fit inside my palm. I can't believe she could generate such power, let alone reach all the chords. I don't know if she ever attempted Liszt...it would have bee a "stretch" for her
