NJ Assemblyman Looks To Ban Organic Herb That Produces Heroin-Like High
CBS New York ^ | April 24, 2015

A New Jersey lawmaker wants to ban an organic herb fueling the latest drug craze among teens.

As WCBS 880’s Sean Adams reported, Kratom gives a high similar to heroin.

The substance is legal and kids can buy it, Adams reported.

The plant is related to coffee; it is native to southeast Asia and has long been used as an herbal pain reliever.

But it is also psychoactive and can cause hallucinations and addictions, says New Jersey Assemblyman Ron Dancer, who wants to make the substance illegal.

“According to the FDA, there is a known toxicity in multiple organs that is leading to aggression, hallucinations, delusions, tremors, nausea, vomiting,” Dancer said.

Unlike heroin, Kratom is not believed to cause respiratory depression. It is smoked, chewed and steeped like tea.

It’s available at tobacco shops, gas stations and online.

The DEA calls it a drug of concern.

Is Assemblyman Dancer a physician? Does he have any medical or scientific training which qualifies him to make such a conclusion?

We have got to stop the government from banning every single substance that someone might possibly abuse. We have no idea what industrial economics or medical discoveries we are preventing by these continuous bans on any and every plant extract these statists suspect that people might take for its pleasurable side-effects.

On top of that, the so-called "War on Drugs" led directly to the tyranny we are now experiencing with "no-knock" police raids and SWAT stormtroopers on city streets, fast-roping down from helicopters to attack citizens that are doing no harm to anyone but themselves.

This guy’s got chuckshumeritis - it causes politicians to respond with legislation to every rumor or television report about a possible issue somewhere that the government has yet to stick its nose in.

The only reason Americans are using this stuff is because all the other stuff they would rather use is illegal. So ban this and what will happen?

They’ll find some other strange drug that is not yet illegal, and use that. Then we’ll have to ban that, and then they’ll use something else, ad nauseum.

...leading to aggression, hallucinations, delusions, tremors, nausea, vomiting

I was in a hospital waiting-room once to pray with a girl who got in a car accident and they were blaring CNN on every screen. I had that exact reaction......leading to aggression, hallucinations, delusions, tremors, nausea, vomiting. When will the insanity stop? We put a man on the moon it is past time to regulate CNN to non-public places - Do it for the children!

Kratum has been outlawed in Thailand for 70 years and was originally banned because it was reducing the Thai government’s tax revenue from opium distribution
