My wife and I met President Bush at Langley AFB, VA on 3 March 2001.. he stopped through on the way to the christening of the USS George H.W. Bush. We were right on the ropeline, and when he and the entourage came through and we shook his hand, he had a remarkably casual, regular-guy countenance. There’s not an iota of phoniness about him.. he’s as down-to-earth as anyone.

Talked with her for about 5 minutes, she was like an old neighbor, friendly, warm, I half expected her to invite me to Maine for a cookout or boat ride.
