The Senate confirmed President Obamas nominee for attorney general Loretta Lynch in a vote of 56-43, Thursday afternoon.
Ten Republicans joined the Democratic caucus in supporting her confirmation: Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Sen. Orrin Hatch (R- UT), Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL),Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH), Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), Sen Thad Cochran (R-MS), Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
Lynch will be replacing outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder. Her confirmation will make her the first African-American woman to hold the position.
Lynch nomination was expected to be close but was not closer than Michael Mukaseys 2007 confirmation on a vote of 5340. It was significantly closer than Holders 75-21 confirmation vote.
Much of the GOP caucus had voiced concerns about Lynchs ability to remain an independent voice in the Obama administration, notably pointing to her support for the legal argument behind executive amnesty.
Some argued against her confirmation as a proxy for Obamas executive actions.
We are deeply concerned in this country about the presidents executive amnesty, the unlawfulness of it, the breadth of it, the arrogance of it to the point that its a direct assault on congressional power and legitimacy, direct attack on laws passed by the peoples representatives, and weve got a big problem, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) argued on the Senate floor Thursday.
Ms. Lynch has said, flat-out, that she supports those policies and is committed to defending them in court against any complaint about it, he added.

Is Orrin Hatch a first term Senator? Did he just fall off a banana boat? People who “don’t get it” do not belong in the Senate. Hatch was outstanding maybe twenty years ago.
Lindsay Gayham again. Sheesh.
Indeed. It is time for all good men to come to the aid of their party.
Thanks Haley Barbour for that louse Thad
Thad Cochran...we all know he is mentally gone, and in a stage of dementia. but the other nine needs to hear from the people who put them in office...
these ten must be hearing impaired, as the did not hear us vote for control of both houses last November!!!
wake up voters for the coming election in 2016...remember these ten...for this new AG will be as bad as the other one Hussein had for six plus years...
SHORT TENURE...
LETS HOPE AND PRAY THAT IS THE CASE....
“Ron Tea Party Johnson of Wisconsin, often praised by Scott Walker, was in the open and unashamed RINO club on this vote.”
It isn’t the first time Ron threw his hat into the Rino ring. He’s made it a bit of a habit and he’s no conservative.
Ron’s defense of his vote:
Ms. Lynch has extensive experience both as a private practitioner and as a U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York. According to all reports and evidence, she has performed her duties in those positions capably and in a professional manner. Although I share the concerns many of my colleagues have expressed over portions of her testimony during confirmation hearings, elections matter and the president has the right to select members of his cabinet. As a result, I voted to confirm Ms. Lynch as attorney general.
Cruz was there to vote on cloture. Once cloture passed he knew they had the votes to confirm her. Cruz spoke out very strongly and was there for the important vote.
Agreed and they are the usual suspects.
“RINOs for Absolute Executive Power.”
No- Even worse.
Evil.... Along with the democrats who vote for her. She has made it very clear that the law is whatever she feels it should be.
never in my 47 years on this planet have i seen a congress controlled by democRATS conspire to willfully cede power to a Republican president.
never in my 47 years on this planet have i NOT seen a congress controlled by Republicans conspire to willfully cede power to a democRAT president.
the Republican party truly is The Stupid Party. to say that i’m utterly disgusted by what little they’ve done to put meaningful roadblocks in front of the Obama agenda since the 2010 elections, is an understatement.
Tell me again why we were supposed to vote for RINOs?
RINOs are worse than Democrats—they trade the souls of our children’s children for personal power. Disgusting traitors!
And when Lynch fails to open up an investigation into the Crooktons shenanigans these ten Rino POS need to be reminded of their vote every day until their next primary.
She’s not the type to just not investigate democrats—she will actively target conservatives while actively covering for the administration.
They are not RINOs. There is no such thing as a RINO and we should never refer to them as such. People vote for RINOs and we should not encourage voters to do that. These people are Repbuvlicans, Liberal Republicans, and conservatives need to stopped voting for liberals.
