Former CIA Director David Petraeus, whose career was destroyed by an extramarital affair with his biographer, was sentenced Thursday to two years' probation and fined $100,000 for giving her classified material while she was working on the book.
The sentencing came two months after he agreed to plead guilty to a federal misdemeanor count of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material.
The plea agreement carried a possible sentence of up to a year in prison. In court papers, prosecutors recommended two years' probation and a $40,000 fine. But Judge David Kessler increased the fine to "reflect seriousness of the offense." He said Petraeus committed a "grave and uncharacteristic error in judgment." Appearing calm and wearing a business suit, Petraeus made a brief statement before he was sentenced, apologizing "for the pain my actions have caused."
Petraeus attorney Jake Sussman said this was not a case about the public dissemination of classified information, but the wrongful removal of materials. But prosecutor James Melindres said, "This is a serious criminal offense. He was entrusted with the nation's most classified secrets. The defendant betrayed that trust". Melindres says Petraeus compounded that trust by "lying to the FBI."
In a brief statement after the hearing, Petraeus said this marks the end of a two-and-a-half year ordeal, and he just wants to move on. "I now look forward to moving on to the next phase of my life," he said, before walking to a waiting car and leaving. The agreement was filed in federal court in Charlotte, the city where Paula Broadwell, the general's biographer and former lover, lives with her husband and children.

Petraeus lost me when he became more concerned about what a private person was doing in exercising their right to Freedom of Speech, than on killing the enemy. I’m referring to the Florida Preacher who was going to burn the Koran.
People at the top make “mistakes”. We at the bottom commit actual crimes.

You can’t blame him??? Listen dude, HE MARRIED her. Nobody tied his hands behind his back, put a blindfold on him and MADE him say I DO!! His choice. His free will. He just got a case of a hard on and decided he would cheat on his wife. He got caught, as usually happens. He has NO EXCUSE. None.
For the rest of us, there's the option of not making stupid choices.
Stupid choices means getting caught.

The question is who did the setting up Broadwell or Kelley. There has been a lot of discussion at another FR link shown below. A number of very interesting links in the comments including very friendly pictures of Kelley family and Petraeus family, with the Lebanese/American sisters looking hot and appreciated. One report that Kelley’s sister was making a play for Governer Krist. Tampa is the perfect place to snare military men and intelligence.

Since his wife was the daughter of the Superintendent of West Point, this raises the question of how much was this a love match, and how much a move of military strategy, possibly on both their parts. I don’t think not hot explains it so much as time separated, perhaps not a love match in the first place, and aggressive women targeting a man with power, and perhaps failing confidence at age 60 and not what I as a woman would call handsome. Also, what other agendas did Broadwell and Kelley have?
If I remember correctly, American soldiers and citizens have been murdered by Terrorists after Koran burning incidents. Was he trying to protect his troops?
