Michael Brown’s family files wrongful death lawsuit against Ferguson
Washington Post ^ | 4/23/15 | Mark Berman

The parents of Michael Brown, the unarmed 18-year-old killed last year by a police officer in Ferguson, Mo., filed a civil lawsuit against the city Thursday.

This lawsuit alleges that the officer’s actions violated Brown’s civil rights, and goes on to state that the city’s broader law enforcement practices “led directly to the unjustified killing.”

Brown was shot and killed last August by Darren Wilson, a Ferguson police officer. This shooting set off frenzied protests in the city, demonstrations that flared up again in November when a grand jury opted not to indict Wilson and again last month when the Justice Department cleared Wilson of any civil rights violations.

Is the mother still up for trial?

You had gang like pictures. The video of man handling the store clerk during a robbery moments before the incident with the police and evidence Brown struggled with the officer with his gun in the police car.

Notice the mother said the son and “NO RECORD AS AN ADULT” which was for what, 15 minutes? Now that he is dead and being they want to sue a city they should unveil the record as a minor as well as the other Brown crimes leading to his own death.

Like Michael Brown, this lawsuit is doomed to fail.

When are the left-wing rags going to stop with the “...unarmed teenager...” crap? Brown was NOT unarmed. When two people are in a struggle over a weapon they are BOTH deemed to be ARMED!

If a civil judge/jury awards anything it means police cannot ever use lethal force in ANY situation.

The sad thing is the City will settle. This suit will never see a jury. No way will the City (aka, their Insurer)risk a possible black jury awarding millions of dollars to the parents no matter what the evidence is.

But for some bit of retained training,or luck, Officer Wilson would have been shot.

Not many outside of Ferguson would have ever heard about it.

Not a major news event.

the law firm representing the family is looking for a nuisance settlement.

They were shut down in florida under their laws, and should be shut down in this case. If anything this should be a nuisance litigation motion.

Counter sue those rats for money neither has? If you really want to stop cases like this, change the law so that you can countersue and go after the plaintiff attorney’s bank account.

When I was in LEO, we'd get sued every now and then. Never worried about. I always did my job by the book. Our City never settled one out of court and all went to trial. Which we won.

The one case the City lost due to any type of Police misconduct was a Doctor that the Chief had made the Depts "Police Surgeon" (whatever that meant - the title should had been "Chief's Drinking Buddy"). No one knew the Chief had done this and it was news to all the Officer's on the force.

The City settled out of Court with the two people involved and the Chief was fired ;)

The city will settle. As pointed out a couple posts up, the cost of litigation and the risk of losing is too high.

I read elsewhere that while Wilson is named in the suit he actually isn’t being sued. The Brown’s lawyer is smart, knows Wilson certainly would fight it and would take in a massive amount of donations for a legal defense fund to finance top representation.

Wilson is being sued, and so is the police chief. Along with the City of Ferguson, they are named parties, and the plaintiffs are asking for a money judgment against them.

The city should sue those morons for not raising him properly. No, the entire country should sue them. Major parental failures.

Since all the evidence will have to be available, I would hope that a counter suit for raising a delinquent would be filed. This seems to be based on a “forensic examiner” that isn’t qualified or licensed.
