Ex-Aide: Walker Does 'Olympics-Quality' Backflip on Immigration

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker executed an "Olympics-quality flip-flop" on immigration on Monday in an interview with conservative radio host Glenn Beck, according to a former aide to the 2016 Republican presidential prospect.

The ex-staffer, Liz Mair, commented on Twitter:

Sad to see the full, Olympics-quality flip-flop by a former boss today. I guess some people think they can do what Romney did in 08 + win.

...

Walker has said he previously supports opening a pathway to residency for immigrants who came here illegally - a position that resonates with the country's growing Hispanic electorate but has less support among the core Republican voters who decide presidential primaries.

Of late Walker has backed away from his earlier position, Politico reports [link at URL].

"My view has changed," he told Fox News in March.

Cruz is the only one that has always rejected citizenship.

Walker is brand new to the idea.

I’m not sure what you mean when you say Walker “passed a law”. Doesn’t the state legislature pass laws and the governor sign them into law?

The state legislature has passed legislation that Walker didn’t put forward. A recent example would be the right to work legislation that Walker didn’t want to pursue at this time, he called it a “distraction” but said he would sign if it reached his desk.

Walker himself has said that he has been fortunate to have a conservative legislature to work with and that our system of checks and balances causes gridlock. He admits he would not have been able to forward his big and bold agenda without his conservative legislature.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2013/11/22/scott_walker_calls_for_obamacare_alternative_120757.html

As for the in-state tuition repeal for illegal immigrants that was sort of a no-brainer. WI taxpayers were not happy about this perk and Walker had a state in a terrible financial situation. He needed to make cuts and this was one of them. If he really wanted to do something about the illegals he didn’t say so. If they had applied at our university would the state know their whereabouts? As far as I know none of them were arrested and sent back home.

Well, Republicans running for office do have a history of telling us what we want to hear and flipping right back to their old script in the general election,

We have all been burned by that repeatedly, so I understand the sentiment. However, except for one Freeper that I know of, those of us here who lived and/or worked in Wisconsin during this period defend this man who OVER delivered on his promises. It would have been the easiest thing for him to go Tommy Thompson, avoid the run-off nonsense, and get re-elected after an unexciting four years where he gave the unions two-thirds of what they wanted. He did not. THAT is why we trust him to deliver on his promises.

“When your state is being colonized to the point of having Spanish speaking groups representing themselves as Voices of the Frontier of Mexico a really long distance from the real frontier of Mexico, you should have noticed before now.”

Exactly. Also Walker recently requested a Mexican Consulate open an office here in WI. 40% of farm workers are immigrants, 50% of them illegals. There has been heavy lobbying from these agriculture groups.

This race is between Scott walker and Jeb Bush(for the R nomination). by you unfairly smearing Walker you are helping JeB Bush who will the entire 6 billion poor people in the 3rd world move to the USA. you are constantly doing negative attack ads against WAlker which are lies anyway so you are working for Jeb Bush for free and are his slave and helping the most pro amnesty pro mexican moron ever to exist Jeb Bush who is also for commie core and a host of socialist/communist issues. you have less intelligence than an ameoba by doing this.

Scott Walker’s actions of passing MANY conservative laws including some against illegal immigrants show who he is a pro-American conservative. Actions, results mean everything. Words mean nothing

Here is just one example of walker taking ACTION against illegal immigrants:

Walker’s 2011 Budget Eliminated A Program That Grants In-State College Tuition To Children Of Undocumented Immigrants(link===>):.

doughtyone wants everyone to believe that a supposed comment taken out of context negates Walkers amazingly impressive record of passing conservative laws even some against illegals.Scott walker has the most impressive record of passing conservative laws in history. a comment means nothing. the record is there

Scott has a problem.

He states his immigration policy has changed. Sadly, it hasn’t.

What do you do if you want to protect the jobs of U. S. Citizens?

Don’t you send back the people who are here illegally holding down jobs?

In 2006/07 Scott supported the McCain Kennedy Comprehensive Immigration reform bill. He confirm this in the linked video at the bottom of this post. McCain/Kennedy supported illegals paying a fine and staying in the U. S.

In 2013, Scott supported illegals aliens paying a fine and staying in the United States. Video of him saying so is in the video.

On 2015, March 1st, Scott was asked if he thought illegals who paid a fine should be able to stay in the U. S. He responded with, I believe a way can be found to do that.

Scott’s policy has remained consistent from the 2006/07 time frame until at least March 1st, 2015. It hasn’t changed.

Scott’s claim in the video linked at the bottom of this post that he didn’t believe in amnesty, and that his policy had changed is not true. Once an illegal is registered, they are legal U. S. residents. They don’t have to fear extradition.

Immigration is discussed starting at 9:20 and the “...a way can be found...” is located at 10:20

At 3:10 Scott discusses whether Obama loves the United States or not. In this discussion he agrees that anyone who seeks public office has to love this country, so Obama must love this county.

Do we have any Conservatives at all here who think Obama loves this country?

>>There in lies the problemo. Politician.<<

“Politics is the art of the possible, the attainable — the art of the next best” Otto Von Bismarck, 1867.

And Walker is an artist in that realm. Very few could have accomplished what he has in Wisconsin in advancing conservative causes. Don’t forget, the Left has been winning for decades now. Just stopping their progress could be considered a win, but he solidly defeated them, in this round at least, not just halted their progress.
