In New Orleans, midnight sounded on last call – for smoking. A new law just took effect banning cigarettes, cigars and other forms of tobacco smoking from all bars.

And some local residents are relieved.

“This is one of the smokiest bars in town,” said Steve Zweibaum, speaking to the New York Times from one local bar. “I know a bunch of people who don’t come in here because of the smoke. Maybe they’ll come back.”

It’s amazing the hostile replies I have gotten on this thread to what I thought was my personal concern for a family member. My son is 35. He’s a critical part of a five person band. The manager books the shows. What part of that is slavery?

It seems that smoking is more important to some freepers than politics or religion.

I was speaking about the other people in the room. We had several alcoholics in the family and they were a mess.

They were all smokers too and it was the tobacco that cut their lives short not the alcohol

Regardless of how you see life the fact is at the end of the day your son chooses to be in a smoke filled room.

It’s his choice. No one is putting gun to his head and forcing him to do it.

been to new Orleans? the stink of vomit, urine, and potheads (and their pot) reeks in the street. Why should anyone have to suffer the gauntlet of stinky stoners when going to their hotel or nice restaurant.

I do (I’m even on one of the HLSR committees)... never really thought of it as a “parade”, more of a processional. I was in a marching band (junior high, high school, Navy base band) and usually our parades were about 5 miles or more... so I never really wanted to go round and round and round the field for 5 miles... that’s a lotta laps

It was the first thing that came to my mind. I think some other parades will end at a stadium after make a loop around.

There are very few venues on this planet that would have a "bunch of smoking potheads" at it enjoying themselves along ANY people who enjoy the same thing but happen to be anally uptight about the smoky environment. It just doesn't work that way...

At the root of both issues is contract law, in the case of the weddings and the bars, the church or bars taking of a business license or 501-c3 acknowledges that they will play by the issuers rules, and like credit card terms deep in there is the “we can change the rules anytime” clause...

“is the “we can change the rules anytime” clause...”

If the government has the ability to change directions at the whims of a few, then there is no such thing as LAW. When this exists, you live at the whim of a tyrant!

Enjoy “The Brave New World” that is being so easily created.

I’m definitely not enjoying it, I’m working towards withdrawing from it internally...
