President Barack Obama promised to put a million more hybrid and electric cars on the road during his tenure, but new research shows drivers are trading them in to buy sports utility vehicles (SUVs).
The auto-research group Edmunds.com found that 22 percent of people who have traded in their hybrids and [electric vehicles] in 2015 bought a new SUV.
This number is higher than the 18.8 percent that did the same last year, but its double the number that traded in their electric car for an SUV just three years ago. Edmunds.com reports that only 45 percent of this years hybrid and EV trade-ins have gone toward the purchase of another alternative fuel vehicle, down from just over 60 percent in 2012.
Never before have loyalty rates for alt-fuel vehicles fallen below 50 percent, Edmunds notes.

>> “What the market needs is a hybrid truck” <<
.
Ford and GM have had hybrid trucks, and they do not sell well for obvious reasons.
Trucks are for carrying loads, hybrids are for soaking fools that have more money than good sense.

So what happens when everybody has an electric car and tries to charge them at the same time? Will we have to resort to having "odd" and "even" charging days, like we did with gasoline in the 1970s?
That’s because Obama couldn’t force the $10 per gallon gas price he planned on.
It is on threads like this that I like to point out that all fuels are not necessarily ‘fossil.’ We have only drilled down a minute portion of the Earth’s crust. On the moons of Saturn & Jupiter we have found oceans of hydrocarbons. I sincerely doubt that TRex and his buddies were romping around those moons. Every year we ‘discover’ more & more oil, shale, natural gas, etc.
While it’s true that some day we may have alternatives, oil is natural, it is part of the natural world. More oil seeps out of the ocean floor than ever spills from tankers.
Common Sense 101 is not so common any more.
One thing people really need to pay attention to with Elon Musk, is that all of his busines models are very carefully crafted for government tax benefit purposes. The battery swap feature is a vaporware feature that will never be implemented in real life, but exists to create a favorable tax environment for the company.
I have owned pickups for most of my adult life. I love it when the greenies realize their 2 cylinder put puts aren’t large enough to haul much.
first come the hints, and more hints. I ignore them until I get tired of listening.
The last humorous episode was with a mother of four girls and one poor boy, She is an attorney and the first words out of her mouth are “I am going to sue ?” Grocery store, Costco, walking dogs, someone has rang her chimes.
She has a very small car and hints how it is too small to carry ?
When I have had enough, I say, “I don’t loan out my truck!: and walk away.
Ignoring the spitting and sputtering!
my trucks a hybrid, it uses gas and has a battery that the engine charges for lights and such.
