Scott Walker Lays Out Pro American Worker Stance on Immigration
Breitbart ^ | 4-20-15 | Matthew Boyle

Posted on 04/20/2015 8:44:29 PM PDT by afraidfortherepublic

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, a likely 2016 GOP presidential candidate, pledged to protect American workers from the economic effects, not only of illegal immigration but also of a massive increase in legal immigration.

During an interview with Glenn Beck, Walker became the first declared or potential 2016 GOP presidential candidate to stake out a position on immigration fully in line with that of Senate Judiciary Committee subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest chairman Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL). He also noted that he has been working with Chairman Sessions on the issue to learn more about it.

Walker is now the only potential or declared GOP presidential candidate to discuss the negative effects of a massive increase in legal immigration on American workers:

In terms of legal immigration, how we need to approach that going forward is saying—the next president and the next congress need to make decisions about a legal immigration system that’s based on, first and foremost, on protecting American workers and American wages, because the more I’ve talked to folks, I’ve talked to Senator Sessions and others out there—but it is a fundamentally lost issue by many in elected positions today—is what is this doing for American workers looking for jobs, what is this doing to wages, and we need to have that be at the forefront of our discussion going forward.

Walker discussed how in the past he did support amnesty, but says he doesn’t anymore, because he has learned more about the issue. That shows him to be one of the most open-minded GOP candidates on such matters.

Not sure I trust Walker, but his willingness to stake out a position like this is a good development. It's about time that someone brought the harm of ceaseless high levels of "Legal" immigration into the conversation. (Though I suspect it's mainly to set up a clear contrast to Jeb).

Nonetheless, it's better than the amnesty weasel words from the Jeb/McCain wing of the party, and better, too, than the mindless mantra popular among others in the GOP, namely, "Immigration is great if its "Legal", only bad if it's "Illegal".

And of course, its infinity better than the current Democrat position: "All migration is good. Borders are racist. Everything else is racist too."

When Beck asked him what the “secret” to success on these battles—and on the election battlefield—was, Walker noted that to win critical independents “you don’t have to move to the center on the issues.” Walker added:

You have to lead. You have to clearly spell out what you’re going to do, tell the people what you’re going to do and then do it. A lot of times in politics people think that to win the middle and independents, that somehow independents are squishy or moderate. Most independents have just been burned too many times before and they’re not willing to commit to one party because they’re frustrated being told one thing and then people doing another.

To lead, you don’t have to be with an independent on every single issue. You just have to look that person in the eye and tell them exactly what you’re doing to and sometimes that means telling them something that they won’t necessarily agree with but they’ll know on all the issues that you’re going to stand firm on what they do care about.

He's got it.

Thanks , I’ll add those and another poster on this thread added many more accomplishments of Scott Walker.

Scott Walker’s record of defeating democrats to pass conservative laws is unmatched in history .And he’s been governor only for a short time. He’s phenomenal! But the liberal news media smears him with lies and others here parrot those lies

This is all good.

There is no doubt in my mind that having two strong conservative front runners will keep pushing the platform to the Right, which is desperately needed.

Exactly. And Walker and Cruz will compliment each other while they’re at it. They will make the Conservative message better and more and more appealing.

They will draw in many Reagan Democrat types.

He has my vote. The establishment is doing everything that it can to steal away or diminish the inheritance that the Founders and our forebears left to us, the American people.

The GOP candidate that wins will have a huge mess to clean up. It will take decades to undo the damage Obama has done. I think Walker is up for the challenge.

“I cut down trees, I wear high heels, suspenders and a bra. I wish I were a girly, just like my dear Papa.”
Governor Scott Walker

You mean, stuff like that?

Except for stuff like that, he’s saying all the right things on border security, even suggesting a moratorium on legal immigration.
So yeah, go Guv!
(Does he really want to put the homos to death? Heh)

Yes, it’s going to take a Miracle Worker to clean up after the Community Organizer-America Destroyer and Walker is the closest to that.

Those are the lyrics of The Lumberjack Song.

CHORUS

I chop down trees, I wear high heels,
Suspenders and a bra.
I wish I’d been a girlie
Just like my dear papa.

Walker has my vote too. Obama and the democrats are bringing in an invading army of 3rd world foriegners they call immigrants. These foreigners vote for democrats/socialism . Look at how they turned California communist by importing 3rd world immigrants . they are taking away the American people’s inheritance , our birthright , our country , our freedom and property and opportunity .

Not only is Scott Walker against legal and illegal immigration but Walker has also defeated democrats to pass conservative laws more so than anyone in history .

This is what I want to hear.

I'm a Cruz guy but I like Walker too. I hope these two guys wind up as partners over the next eight years.

Gov. Walker has sought out the right folks for advice to craft his immigration policy. I'm certain Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas gave him some terrible, hard facts about the extreme dangers on the southern border that are threatening national security.

I leave it to others to judge if Walker can be trusted to abandon his past position entirely and execute his current immigration plan with resolute conviction and zeal if he is elected.

One thing is certain, Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio are utterly untrustworthy on this critical issue that poses an existential threat to the security, economic well being, and culture of the USA.

I like the concept of a guy listening to the grass roots and others, and coming up with a reasoned policy. It still grates me considerably that Scott is having to come up with this stance now.

I am so sick of reading about candidates that had no idea illegal immigration was the scourge it is, until just recently. WTH?

How can you take a guy like that serious?

What he changed to in weeks, seems easy enough to change in a few more weeks.

He is right that legal immigration needs to be looked at hard. What’s he willing to do there?

Frankly, we need a freeze on all immigration.

What’s his stance on all the Islamic Syrians headed our way?

Personally, I think that’s what we’re going to get for the ticket. In what order I don’t know, but I can imagine the psych wards will be filled from one end of America to another with liberals going totally crazy with a ticket of the two Republicans they loathe the most.

Frankly, we need a freeze on all immigration.

I agree. Immigration should be minimal when we are in anything other than a full-employment economy.

Furthermore, we need a moratorium, near zero, for a decade or so to allow time for the people already here to assimilate.

Immigration policy should always serve the interests of citizens. Open immigration is not a right. It is a privilege that should be extended when it serves the interests of the citizenry.

Where is the politician who is prepared to make that argument?

Most politicians, even the ones I like, will try to soften their anti-illegal-immigration rhetoric by calling for increased legal immigration. But in an economy like this one with massive record high unemployment it is not just crazy, it is disrespectful of the American citizen to keep bringing people in by the millions per year.
