Okay, did some quick googling. McCain is probably responding to this Politico story:

It reports what Cruz said with a partial quote and a paraphrase.

The paraphrased part is where Cruz reportedly claimed to be pressing McCain, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he actually said he was pressing the committee, which of course has members other than John McCain, as glorious as he is.

Call me "anti-science", but I am really concerned about the drugs they're pushing on these guys.
