A piece on today's front page of today's Post and Courier extolling the virtues of Walter Scott's character.

Every day a new angle to the tragedy by the press. Jessie Jackson here stirring the pot Friday. Al Sharpton involved. How long until something bad again happens?

What happened was unjustified and painful to watch. An officer will lose his job and surrender his freedom for a long time due to a bad decision.

What is the press trying to do? Get some police officers killed? Get some buildings burned down? They are not making things better.

Maybe they're just paying homage to a man who was killed tragically and unnecessarily. He didn't seem like a bad guy - just a guy made mistakes. He didn't need to die.

I'm sure the "public execution squad" on FR will be along to justify what happened.

I agree with you 100 percent. He did not seem like a bad guy. But the media effort to beatify him seems odd. A few days after the event, ok. But now? Keep the resentment flowing!

The officer was wrong. No one can justify what happened.

I hope I am wrong and no more bad happens from this. All police should have body cameras and training should be made better, due to this terrible decision. That would be some good to come of this tragedy.

I did not see any semblance of racism or initial bad treatment by the officer in the video. It is painful to watch.

What I do not understand is why these bully idiot policeman don’t let the moron run and simply arrest him later. You don’t get to shoot someone for a traffic violation and you don’t get to shoot someone in the back who doesn’t “obey” your lame command to “stop”.

I did not post this to rehash the stupid police decision. The purpose of the post was to illustrate the media’s role in continually stirring resentment that resulted from that stupid decision.

He was a violent fleeing felon who was willing to attack a peace officer to avoid going to jail. He would be just as wiling to take one of your loved ones hostage to avoid jail.

Let him escape and arrest him later? That’s a new style of police work I haven’t heard of, where did you find that tactic?

You disagree do ya? Please make your counter argument instead of trying to pull rank. Pulling rank isn’t a substitute for debate.

Were those the kids he did not pay support on? Those kids would have rather had a caring father than a stupid trip to Disney.

You want to know what is fundamentally wrong with America..there ya have it.

I don’t think he needed to, or should have been executed like that.

That said, if he had taken care of his kids, this never would have happened.

I don't get the connection. In this economy don't you think it's possible the man cared about his children but couldn't find a way to provide for them?

It's easy to be judgmental on the internet.

and, he was driving a Mercedes Benz, that he was planning to buy on Monday. I am NOT saying he was not a okay guy, but for the media to make him into a saint and keep on hammering it daily? the media is just trying to stir up trouble.

He attacked a cop (Slager)...

Attempted to disarm him (grabbed his taser)...

Might have been trying to use deadly force against cop (mite have tried to take his revolver).

So you are saying he would not have taken a hostage or barricaded himself in a home somewhere with a hostage? How do you know that? Would you prefer to let hm go and see if he was going to do that?

It MIGHT be manslaughter although the cop was within his authority to use deadly force to stop him according to SCOTUS in Garner v Tennessee 1985

Did this take place in Tennessee?

He wasn’t a felon, innocent until proven guilty.

You don’t know much about law enforcement or you would know that law enforcement always wins, it’s just a matter of time. You don’t have to kill them. Or even chase them. Let them go. Then get them when you are able. If the cop in Ferguson would have done that, he would still be a cop and the dude he killed would still be stealing cigars.

Garner v Tennessee is the law of the land since 1985. He had attacked a peace officer. That is a felony. Slager, the cop he attacked, witnessed the commission of a felony, (the attack on him) he had a duty to take him into custody and the SCOTUS case gave him the right to do it.

You are just plain wrong. You just don’t like the result of the cops lawful actions.

Or would you rather that the cop wait until he kills an innocent person?
