Seems like the time of day has an impact. It's rare for me to get checked during rush hour, but if I head into town late or leave early, I'm a lot more likely to be checked.
same for the HBLR in Jersey City.
I ride almost everyday workday, and feel like I am the only one that pays. The vast majority never validate their tickets, if they even have a valid ticket.
Fare enforcement shows up once a month or so....but the Amish go on twitter and FB and alert other riders or their presence / location.
