Going back to my first post, I’m referring to just a list of harmful chemicals. But you are making my point — if people understood what was in their food, the “problem” would be so boring and trivial, they’d probably just tune out.

There’s a difference between hand pollinating for selective breeding and adding cross species genes in a laboratory. Yeah, I know, I’m prolly just one of those Luddites you have a penchant for insulting with your vastly superior knowledge of all things scientific. ha! Ahh ha! Ha!

Yeah, the latter is much faster and provides us with the desired result rather than hoping for the best with the former. The genetic modification of agricultural products has been going on for thousands of years.

I don't know if you're a Luddite, but you did say something funny about ALL food being organic before chemicals were used. It's always entertaining when chemicalphobes say something like that while complaining about chemicals in food.

Someone should look into the studies showing organic foods are higher in carcinogenic and other harmful chemicals than vegetables grown with modern pesticides. My recollection is that plants when attacked by insect and other pests generate their own chemical defenses. These, of course, are contained in the plant tissue and don’t rapidly degrade and can’t be washed off like modern pesticies. I believe the end result is that organic fruits and vegetables are pretty high in chemicals of their own.

Above from your first post. I'm not making your point and neither are you. There are approved organic pesticides and fungicides which are generally natural and much less toxic to humans. Organic produce is not eaten up by insects and diseases. I don't think a plant's natural chemical defense is a signicant problem and that natural defense is also probably employed even when chemical controls are used.

There are some very toxic chemicals in use and only a tiny portion of crops are ever tested to determine how much of the chemicals remain on food crops.

But this discussion was about GMO and labeling is a simple solution to let the consumer decide whether they want to consume GMO containing food products.
