Schumer: McConnell Needs to Learn to ‘Play Ball’

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell needs to learn to “play ball” with Democrats instead of trying to roll them, Sen. Charles E. Schumer said Thursday in a hallway interview.

Schumer, the heir apparent to Minority Leader Harry Reid, called the Kentucky Republican’s decision to hold hostage Loretta Lynch’s nomination as attorney general over the abortion dispute on the sex trafficking bill “a big mistake” and said Democrats are still holding the line against any expansion of the Hyde Amendment restrictions on abortion funding.

“Look, the Democrats, we hung tough on every time they’ve challenged us,” the New York Democrat said. “They ought to learn not to try to roll us, but to play ball with us and they can get things done. That’s what McConnell said he wants to do but he keeps trying to roll us.”

Schumer called Cornyn’s latest compromise offer — trying to graft Hyde language from the just-passed doc fix bill to the human-trafficking bill “a wolf in sheep’s clothing.”

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., declared that maintaining abortion rights for human-trafficking victims is “fundamental” to the legislation, which would govern restitution paid by criminals to victims.

“Never before have we privileged the concerns of criminals over the rights of women,” he said.

Sen. Patrick J. Leahy, the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, remains angry at Republicans for stalling Lynch, saying it affects the national security of the country. He recalls Republicans urging swift passage of President George W. Bush’s attorney general nominees for that very reason.

Without access to abortion, sex-trafficking victims can’t be “truly free” from their slavery, Blumenthal added.

Don't worry Chucky, Mitch will still cave, just when it's convenient to him.

Schumer wants McConnell to play with Schumer's balls? I wouldn't rule it out.

Yeah, he should play ball exactly like Harry Reid did.

Republicans “playing ball” with democrats, which means “compromising” with democrats is why the country is possibly about to go under. There always seems to be enough republican votes to approve any socialist for any position.

Hey Chuck!

As long as you’re whining, I’m happy.

My G-d what an ignorant statement. With access to abortion they are "truly free:" from their slavery and not sex0trafficing victims?

Before he plays ball, he first has to acquire some, not an easy feat for a RINO man.

Upchuck Schumer may be playing some sort of game, but it sure isn’t ball, in the accepted meaning of the term.

Schumer’s game is mostly “Now I gotcha, sucker!” That involves getting the opponent in a bind where the only resolution is to agree to the demands of the aggressive player. Defense is not allowed.

Play Ball?

Sheesh! As capitulation to dems goes, Mitch has tried everything from ping pong, to bowling with some softball and soccer mixed in trying to win your favor and love. He sucks at sucking. He couldn’t do worse if he were working for North Korea. Problem is, Dems hate Republicans and will move the bar everytime a spelunker gets close to the top.

Dems in power: We won, we’ll do everything we want. too bad.

Dems out of power: Republicans need to learn WITH the Democrats, learn to play ball.

I’d like to apologize on behalf my state that we continue to send that self-aggrandizing jackass to Washington.

Did Chuck say this with a straight face? Unbelievable. The only thing true he said is tat the Democrats “hung tough” on the Hyde Amendment. Dims can be counted on to toe the party line. RINO’s? Not so much (I guess they really are the party, Constitutional conservatives being on the outs.)

When did you ever hear a talking head wondering which lib on the Supreme Court or in the Senate would break from the party and support the conservative side? It never happens.

This is really rich considering how Dingy Harry ran the Senate, with Chuckie’s full support.

““Possibly” you say?”

Yes, I added the possibly, I’m not comfortable with it, without “possibly” it sounded if I had no hope for our future, and I do but not much.

Someone needs to explain to Schumer how to play this game. You are supposed to vote for cloture, and then let the majority party pass bills you don’t agree with, or at least claim you don’t. Isn’t that what our Republican champions have been doing for five years?

“Schumer: McConnell Needs to Learn to ‘Play Ball’

I agree. McConnell has already mastered “roll over and play dead”. Now its time for him to learn a new trick.
