‘The supposedly P5 question that went viral on the Internet on Apr 12, 2015 is actually a question from the Sec 3 and from the Sec 4 SASMO (Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad) contests held on Apr 8, 2015’

Per the organizers.

The correct answer is July 16, but I get torn up at one point.

Since Albert and Bernard don’t know the same information but Albert knows that Bernard doesn’t know a particular piece of information, you can assume that any information that does not share a month or date can be eliminated.

For instance, there’s only one instance of 19, so May 19 is out. Likewise, there’s only one instance of 18, so June 18 is out. This also eliminates June 17 since only one June would be left and that eliminates August 17 since there would be no other 17.

That leaves May 15 & 16, July 14 & 16, and August 14 & 15. Since there are two instances of each month and two instances of each date, I’m left wondering how they get down to July 16, but that is the correct answer.

The question id bogus because Cheryl, not wanting
to be thought a cougar, lied about her age by 15 years

“Cheryl is an a-hole”.

You sound like my youngest. I got a math homework assignment back that I had to sign. The question: Marcus insists that six times six is 90. What would you tell Marcus? My little one’s response: I would tell Marcus he is stupid and needs to stop watching all that tv and do more math. The teacher found it as humorous as I did. :)

“My answer is, Cheryl is an a-hole.

She could have just told them when her birthday was.”

I agree.
With her attitude; Cheryl likely grew up and became a community organizer for The Occupy movement.
She now stages protests at popular trendy restaurants where people are having brunch.

Supposedly that’s the correct answer, but I honestly can’t see how you can deduce the correct date if it’s one of the dates with a duplicate day.

No
Because if it was the 19th, He would already know the full date, as there is only one occurrance of 19, same is true of the 18th. Can’t be June 17th as the first statement would then not be true either, with certainty.

Invert your thinking. The day has to be a duplicate, otherwise the person given the day would know immediately.

SPOILER

The answer is July 18th.

Eliminate all May and August choices since their are 3 dates in each month. 18 is the only number to be used once.

Since people can choose their sexual identity despite what physical attributes they were born with....why can’t a 14 y.o. kid claim to be 45 years old due to age being a social construct the same as gender?

ipso facto, ala kazaam, anyone can be any age they want to be so Cheryl can have any birthday she wants or you are a age-phobe.

Don’t know about Singapore but here the best answer would be Juneteenth.

‘Cause Juneteenth is sacred and I don’t care if she was born on Leap Day you are still going to get credit for the answer.

Dis be a Murrca an dats how us role heer.

Bernard was only told the day. If he was told "19" then he knows the birthday because there is only one "19" on the list, May 19.

Albert was only told the month, so that is of no help because each month has at least two possibilities. But if Bernard says he now knows, then Albert also can guess May 19.

It could also be June 18.

There is only one for the 18th. It’s the only date that if you know the day then you also know the month. So as soon as Bernard finds out the date is the 18th he knows which one it is. And it’s the only one that could let him know that.

Bernard would have known at once if it was June 18, because 18 occurs only once. My guess is June 17 because that is the only one with a once occurring digit and two choices. Do we know what the answer is for real?
