Video at the link. I give a big Northfield Township Washtenaw County thank you to my friends and neighbors to my north. I know Livingston County's Chair back from our days in college and law school. Good guy and solid conservative.

Proposal 1 is a cluster and an absolute disaster. The sales tax goes up 17%. The gas tax goes up when it switches to the wholesale method indexed to inflation adding cost at the pump. The money from the sales tax goes to local governments, schools, and a tax credit to low income families.

I'm voting no.

I suspect prop 1 will go down in flames if people get out and vote.

Yup. Just a couple months ago they were bragging about increasing the budget. That tells me that can find the money elsewhere without a tax hike.

I did some simple digging in the latest available MI state budget online. The gas tax revenue in that budget was $800M. 1/6th of the sales tax revenue is about $820M.

My conclusion is that this proposal is a 102.5% tax increase for this specific cost in the budget!

Now, let’s consider the “stimulus” that was passed for infrastracture “shovel ready” jobs. That was for a cool Trillion dollars. Divide $1T/50 states and the result is $20B for each state. That would fund more than 20 years of this supposed need....

Where is the $800M that we currently collect going? Where did the stimulus go? I am sick and tired of government a-holes just burning my money and then asking for more!

Before anyone approves any tax increase, we should DEMAND accountability for what is already being stolen from those that earn the money!

I live in the UP of Michigan and We Energies has decided in 5 years (2020) to close Presque Isle Power Plant (marquette). the cost of electricity is anticipated to increase by 200%. The Upper Peninsula of Michigan will become deserted because many are low income and where will the business go to. The Proposition 1 is a joke. I for one will vote no on prop 1. Rick Synder has shown his true colors hates business and hates property owners.

Even the libtards know this is a bad deal. If it was just an income tax ‘on the rich’ it would go through easily. But since a sales tax would affect the libs too, the left is taking pause.

Would venture to state the Detroit bankruptcy had a little to with this, indirectly at least. Dems know once the sales tax hits 7%, 8%-10% is not far behind.
