I have an external drive, it is at the office. I did rename and that seemed to be the significant part of the problem. Rebooted both worked.

Great - worked on government networks for a long time and the 3 things that will stop communication dead are same name/IP/MAC address. Else, computers are really gregarious and want to talk with each other.
