Well, I’m sorry, but Mr. Rogers comes to mind everytime I see Scott Walker, even his speaking style. It didn’t help any when the press spent a week talking about his sweater purchase. Mr. Rogers is a great guy. Scott Walker is a great guy. I just don’t think it would be a good idea to have him sitting across the table from Vladimir Putin.
What you’re doing is straight out of Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals”:
5) Ridicule is mans most potent weapon. There is no defense. Its irrational. Its infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.
12) Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions
Debbie Wasserman-Test employs those tactics by, for example, calling a certain Republican a “Flat Earth society worshiper”.
I employ the tactic in return by comparing her to Venereal Disease.
I think we should beware of using Alinsky tactics against our own.
YMMV
