President Obama signed a disaster declaration on Monday for Massachusetts and ordered federal aid to help the state recover from the blizzard that hit the region from Jan. 26-28. The state's costs total about $400 million.
The aid is available to state, tribal and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations.
It also covers state and local government snow-removal costs for a continuous 48-hour period during or after the storm and the costs of related hazard mitigation.

Hasn’t the snow melted already?
It was a rough winter for me too.
Now who is going to set up a gofundme account to help with my recovery?
400 MILLION for snow removal? How many snow plows did they buy? How many man hours driving said snow plows?
Actually, I’m surprised, now that Deval is no longer governor. The current governor, Charlie Baker, is a Republican. So, I’m surprised Obama would sign off on this.
Did people break into Wal Marts to steal TVs and XBox units and claim them as essential items?
Ohhh k
We had a bad ice/snow storm here in NE Indiana that lasted for days.
FEMA showed up and was giving away brand new Stihl chainsaws.
Your federal government doing what it does best: giving s***/your tax dollars away.
I’m amazed the government was bright enough to give out chainsaws. That’s a step up from handing out cash to pay someone else to do it.
Is that last January or next?
I knew some people who took a saw, they were 028 `Woodbosses’, I think.
I used to sell Stihls years ago but couldn’t really afford one then. With the owner’s permission I did make a smaller one out of used/extra parts before I moved on.
Anyway, this couple were both working professionals, making very good money and they already owned a couple good saws. I told her I thought she and her husband should be ashamed of themselves. They didn’t like hearing that, but that’s too bad.
Sorry cripple, but I don’t think the government has any business playing Santa like this; if people really need help clearing downed trees and throwing snow, to the contrary, I don’t have a problem with that. My neighbors and I helped one another.
No
I didn’t say they should give out saws, only that its a bit smarter than usual.
Roads are like moon crater sized potholes, people are losing wheels.
The pensions are now well funded.
028’s are very old... I burned one out 10 yrs ago and it had around 15 yrs on it...

Actually Mass is one of the last New England state to get a declaration. Maine (also a Republican governor) received one on March 13 for late January storms. All six New England states have received disaster funding for snow storms this winter. They all have the same language (except Vermont omits tribal and the Mass one adds the and certain private nonprofit organizations.). All are for the January 26 to 28th except Vermont which is December 9 to 12, 2014.
Furthermore, Tennessee and West Virginia have qualified for other more recent storms.
WHY?? With the Massive Global Warming on like Al Gore and Hillary says, this must be FRAUD, It is virtually impossible for SNOW to even hit the ground on earth.
