Most of us get federal grant money, and many of us even work for the federal government.
In my case, my education was 90% paid for by the federal government. And all of the work I have done since receiving the PhD is federally funded. (Thank you for funding my livelihood!)
Although most scientists receive federal funding, the difference is that most areas of scientific research are not seen as opportunities to force socialism down our throats, as "global warming" is. Understanding how, for example, dioxin is toxic and how to clean it up from the environment does not lend itself to the promotion of socialism. OTOH, singling out carbon dioxide, which results from just about any chemical process (and is necessary for life), gives politicians a perfect excuse to shut down economic activity. It doesn't matter that CO2 effect on climate has actually not been definitively established; it only matters that someone hypothesized a link and that it is perfect for a particular political agenda.
Good post.
