WHEN my brother Michael was a Senate page, he delivered mail to John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon, who had offices across the hall from each other.

...

Good gosh, Mo must be old.

...

He recalled that Kennedy never looked up or acknowledged his presence, but Nixon would greet him with a huge smile. “Hi, Mike,” he’d say. “How are you doing? How’s the family?”

It seemed a bit counterintuitive, especially since my dad, a D.C. police inspector in charge of Senate security, was a huge Kennedy booster. (The two prominent pictures in our house were of the Mona Lisa and J.F.K.) But after puzzling over it, I finally decided that J.F.K. had the sort of magnetism that could ensorcell big crowds, so he did not need to squander it on mail boys. Nixon, on the other hand, lacked large-scale magnetism, so he needed to work hard to charm people one by one, even mail boys.

...

Or it could be that JFK was a phony and Nixon was a much nicer person.

Hillary will ride the Clinton name for all it’s worth - just like Chelsea did...

AND she’ll be just as good a President as Chelsea was a ‘journalist’...

Watch the press switch to calling her ‘Clinton’..

The Kennedy’s as privileged, crooked snobs? What’s to counter-intuit?

Talk about seeing things through a filter, she even manages to twist JFK being a rude person to working people, and Nixon being friendly to them and noticing them, into something anti-Nixon.

This idea that Nixon has to live in JFK's shadow forever is bizarre anyway, Nixon was a two term vice president under Eisenhower, and a two time elected president, and is a much more substantial and enduring figure than the incompetent and short lived boy wonder created by the left.

Maureen Dowd represents the demographic that Hillary MUST WIN if she expects to make it even beyond the Iowa Caucuses — a liberal feminist who would like nothing better than to see a Democratic woman president in her lifetime.

Yet even on the eve of Hillary’s announcement, Maureen can’t find a way to say anything positive about the only Democratic woman currently running for the White House.

For Hillary, Maureen Dowd is the canary in the mineshaft who must remain healthy and happily chirping Hillary’s praises or her candidacy can’t survive. Yet, judging by Maureen Dowd’s latest column, the canary has already died.

Maybe the word she's struggling to come up with here is "narcissism" -- a common trait in the political world, and one that manifests itself in different ways with different politicians.

It's also one reason why JFK didn't put much into his relations with women beyond the two minutes or so that he needed.

The Times used to have an interactive site where you could debate liberal dogmatists until the cows came home.

They stopped the unlimited debate years ago, but I still enjoy posting on their site about their articles and editorial comments when I can get in.

They cut off the comments pretty quickly these days and it’s funny to watch how quickly they cut off the comments when someone writes an article or column that goes against their liberal bias. This Dowd column got the bums rush after only 326 comments.

And some articles or commentary or editorials aren’t open to any comment at all by the great unwashed hoi polloi.
