I hadn’t heard that rumor. I don’t think there’s any room in New Carrollton proper.
They wanted to put the FBI in the wooded area near the Metro station, which also has the Amtrak station and is just off US 50. However, Greenbelt and Landover seem to have won out in MD. Greenbelt has Metro and road access and a federal courthouse, and Landover has a large space, the old Landover Mall, Metro and the interstate, but is just opposite Redskins Stadium and in Landover.
I hope they put it in Springfield, VA, although there was a report in the WaPO that the warehouses there were actually some kind of secret CIA facility, with an underground complex that the CIA doesn’t want to move. WaPo attempt to influence the selection through lying, or the truth? I don’t think the GSA would put the site on the short list if it were true.
The VA site is closer to Quantico, and has good rail and road access, but is less politically correct, which I suspect will be the real deciding factor.
