A security guard was critically injured in a shooting at the U.S. Census Bureau headquarters in Suitland on Thursday evening.
Prince Georges County fire department spokesman Mark Brady said that an adult male who was standing guard at a gate to the facility had suffered at least one gunshot wound to his upper body. Brady said the victims condition was extremely critical.
At about 7:45 p.m., roughly two dozen military-clad officers with rifles entered the Census campus and began sweeping through parking garages and lots. It was unclear which police agency the officers represented.
Around the same time, an announcement could be heard on the campus loudspeaker alerting people to a security-related incident. The announcement said that law enforcement officers would be conducting a car-by-car search of vehicles on the property.
Shortly before 8 p.m., the sounds of three small explosions could be heard.

Or just another day as normal in PG County Maryland?
They are still working the census?
They have to count all those extra illegals Obama and his goons let in everyday to vote Democrat
mooooselim’s testing the water!!
a little hit here a little hit there....keep people as anxious as possible..in preperation to do a big one.
Obie will clear the name of ISLAM as soon as he reads about this incident in next weeks time magazine!!
The father was not amused when I told him I dodged the census in 2000 and 2010. Told me I was unpatriotic or something. Guess he was afraid if more people dodged the census, he would be out of a job.
Bizarre. Why would anybody attack the Census Bureau?
Granted, the census is all lies. They started inflating the numbers of blacks under Bill Clinton, I believe, by declaring a certain percentage to refusing or unavailable, and then applying a 10% or more automatic upgrade to the numbers. And Bush just continued it.
But nobody is going to attack the Census Bureau for that, and therefore it was probably pretty weakly guarded.
I’d suspect jihadi activity, since they regard any poorly defended place associated with the US as an attractive target.
Equally bizarre; why does the census bureau have a guard?
Every ten years I get a census form in my mail box at the post office. As I walk by the trash can it the door I notice it is overflowing with thrown away census forms.
A Fed drone was retired? That’s awful.
"Reporters on the scene said they heard a series of loud bangs from inside the Census Bureau complex, though it was not clear if those were "flash-bang" grenades used to disorient someone, or gunshots. Initial reports are that the incident began when a gunman rammed gates outside the building.
At some point in the incident, the gunman fled from a guard -- and then shot the guard in the chest, according to reports from the scene. The Census Bureau tweeted a statement that there had been a "incident" at the campus.
"There has been an incident at the Suitland Federal Center and there is an ongoing investigation," the tweet read. "We are committed to the safety of all staff who work at the Census Bureau and are currently making sure that everyone is safe and secure. We will provide more details as they become available"
The FBI is investigating the incident. The Census Bureau headquarters, which opened in 2006, houses about 5,000 permanent employees.
It’s located in a crappy neighborhood. I have relatives buried in a cemetery near there and I’m afraid to visit their graves.

Suitland is a bad neighborhood day or night.
Elementary schools have guards these days. So do a lot of grocery stores. It’s the new America.
Likely gay spat.
"Working" or "on the payoll"?
Two different things.

I can’t wait for the Omama administration to decide to put the new FBI Headquarters in New Carrolton.
