People confuse EBT with welfare.

I guess then that it is actually a gift card, since I see people buying $8.99 6 packs of microbrew with cash and their food with EBT.
I have a very able bodied son who took the wrong turn in life. He and his baby momma (thank God I have custody of the child) both got EBT, Tanf and all the other alphabet soup the government offers despite both being quite young and able to work. He constantly bragged about being able to buy cigarettes and other non food items with the EBT. Or would ask for more money at the end of the month cause baby momma had spent it all on red bull and cigarettes (no I didn’t give it to him)
The system is totally abused and easy to scam. When I did get custody of my granddaughter, I called the welfare office and told them I had custody of the child so they could cut off the benefits to momma. I was informed that they would not look at it until her six month review was due, she was free to collect benefits for a child she no longer had until then. Assistance should be with then end product (food, clothing etc) and not cash. And if you are able bodied you should have to do some sort of service to get it (pick up trash, stock shelves at the food bank, whatever)
As a taxpayer I am sick to death of being scammed and supporting immoral and often illegal lifestyles because those receiving it have figured out the system and how to live off my hard work.
