PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) — A single dad and his seven children were found dead in their one-story home, relatives said, and though officials gave no details on the cause of the deaths, the man's stepfather said he had been trying to keep the family warm with a generator after the power was cut because of an outstanding bill.
Lloyd Edwards told The Associated Press that his stepson, 36-year-old Rodney Todd, had bought the generator after the power was shut off to the home in Princess Anne, about 60 miles southeast of Annapolis on Maryland's Eastern Shore. He said those who died were Todd and Todd's two sons and five daughters.

The moron can sire 7 kids, but cannot afford utilities. Yet, blame the utility company for doing its job — trying to look out for its shareholders.
Tennis player Vitas Gerulaitis died of CO poisoning when a faulty pool heater caused CO to seep into the guesthouse where he was sleeping.
for some reason, right before we bought the detector, i was feeling paranoid about CO poisoning... i was getting headaches, and i did not know why... i do not think that CO had anything to do with it after all, but i felt the need to get the Black Hawk detector... we would have been found dead on Christmas day!
Detectors are fairly cheap, and the Kidde Company just sent me a free replacement for one of mine that failed even though it was 2 yrs past warranty.
Interesting stats. If he had left the generator outside, it would probably have gone missing.
But, I sure hope somebody calls and attorney and takes the electric company to task over all these children being denied basic electricity. This was not a good plan.
I even understand that the electric company may have a whole bunch of people who are not able to pay their bills; but punishing 7 children .. Definitely not a good plan.
I have a hard time understanding how buying a generator and keeping it fueled is cheaper than just paying off the electric bill.
The father was a utility worker and had a generator INSIDE ?????????

But stupidity does kill with great regularity.
I wonder at the intelligence level of the adult in charge. A generator or any other appliance that pours carbon monoxide into the room or house, means death and an adult should know this just from living and hearing of this type death.
I'm not sure where there is a right to basic electricity. I can't remember it in the constitution, and I'm sure I would have remembered if I had seen it.
Do children have the right to "basic electricity" (which SOMEONE has to pay for) simply by existing? How about the right to basic television?
Often in colder areas states have laws that the utilities cant be disconnected for nonpayment between November and March. Once Nov hits, they can stop paying, use as much as they want, not pay anything, and then come April 1 or whenever it is allowed, it gets turned off and wont be reconnected until the $500 to $2000 owed is paid in full. This is frequently considered a good time to move, and get a new place with the lights already on.
Depends on what the utility wanted for him to settle. If they were looking at a large one time payment, that generator might look good.
I don't get that either.
Is that what you figure the order was, or are you just guessing?
