If I recollect correctly - 2008 and 2012 had a very large Black voter turnout.

Identifying with your own kind is/was more important than rational thinking and overcame any religious affiliation.

Identifying with your own king is a VERY strong emotional motivator - Family, tribe, nation

Black voter turnout actually surpassed white voter turnout in 2012.

"A census first: Black voter turnout passes whites"

Unfortunately there are an increasing number of white (and Hispanic, and Asian) voters who believe that they are going to get screwed no matter which party wins.
