Saudi Arabia has invested in Pakistani nuclear weapons projects, and believes it could obtain atomic bombs at will, a variety of sources have told BBC Newsnight.
While the kingdom’s quest has often been set in the context of countering Iran’s atomic programme, it is now possible that the Saudis might be able to deploy such devices more quickly than the Islamic republic.
Earlier this year, a senior Nato decision maker told me that he had seen intelligence reporting that nuclear weapons made in Pakistan on behalf of Saudi Arabia are now sitting ready for delivery.
Last month Amos Yadlin, a former head of Israeli military intelligence, told a conference in Sweden that if Iran got the bomb, “the Saudis will not wait one month. They already paid for the bomb, they will go to Pakistan and bring what they need to bring.”
Of course part of the atomic warfare equation frequently forgotten is that having the bomb is one element of the threat, getting it to the target in a condition in which it actually works as desired is also part of the challenge. The newbies may not get more than cone chance to get it right.
Go ahead an use them on Mecca.
If they had them Israel would be no more-—No—they do not have them YET. And if they do—and if they strike—Israel will hit them back with a 10 to 1 ratio. For every jew who dies, 10 Iranians will perish—first to go—their holy city and the Mullahs. America better be ready to airlift the survivors out and be ready for all the radiation sickness. The Jews will return again and this time they will rebuild the temple.
