They’ll probably need to spend at least half of that money on a 24/7 security detail, no matter where they go.

isn’t that gifts below a certain amount (like $10k) aren’t taxable?

and is that total or cumulative to the recipient?

Oh, I doubt that.
Leftists are cowards.

If they don’t have huge numerical advantage or gov’t guns behind them, they don’t act.

If they moved “Memories” to a friendly little town,
the local constabulary and their neighbors would make sure they were safe.

Well, I happen to know from some first-hand experience here on Free Repubic ... that there is a bunch of people who will not like that sentiment at all ... LOL ...

AND ... to show that’s the case, all anyone here has to do is simply utter that phrase and watch yourself get HAMMERED within minutes ... :-) ...

In fact, I’m going to try it out myself over the next few threads where the topic comes up and see what happens.

“We have to accept Gay people, and I just ask that they accept us.”

— — —

I predict I get hammered into little pieces here on Free Republic! ... :-) ...

That’s the beauty of it.

Gifts are not considered income.

You are right about the givers having to pay a tax when a gift is above a certain amount...last I knew the limit was around ten grand for a single donor, twenty grand for a heterosexually married couple.

Kidding about the hetero part.

They don't have to move. The problem is not the locals. It's a bunch of idiots from all over the world with nothing better to do with their lives than sit in front of a screen typing threats and nasty comments.

Seriously, if the NSA spies on all of us and knows everything we communicate by phone or internet, surely law enforcement can find and prosecute those who are terrorizing the O’Connors.

But no. The O’Connors don't belong to a protected class. If you aren't gay, black or Muslim, you're on your own.

I think the gift tax limit is around $14K today. I don't know how the IRS treats these gofundme donations. I don't know if they are treated as individuals giving (which would be a limit of $14K) or as one large donation. It would be interesting to find out.

It’s not what they “aren’t”, it’s what they ARE that makes them a target. And that truth needs to be stated louder and bolder before the left gets so much power they can’t be stopped.

macdonalds should try that...

McDs: for a donation of just $1, you will receive this nice cheeseburger. for every donation of $3.50 you’ll receive this large fry and coke along with the cheeseburger

McDs ends up paying no taxes

:)

There are too many scammers out there in the real world, and especially on the Internet. I’ve seen too many instances of it, have read too many stories about it, had had too many people that I know directly myself, who have been scammed on the Internet, and have read way too many articles on what to look for and how to avoid being scammed on the Internet.

And, of course, knowing all this (and “believing it” and taking measures) is probably why I’ve never been scammed on the Internet, and fortunately not in real life, completely apart from the Internet.

If someone doesn’t know this kind of stuff is going on, then they’ve been hiding out in a cave somewhere! ... LOL ...

BUT, the thing is ... even with people who are fully aware ... they still get scammed “when” they have the kind of thinking that says, “That won’t happen to me!” and they ignore the warning signs. The BEST SCAM is the one that sounds the MOST LEGITIMATE. ... :-) ...

Over $500K raised in 24 hours. This sum is more than a financial benefit. It is also rich in symbolism. The crowd funding is a visual to the intolerant left that we are a country that supports the opposite of what they believe.

Yeah, I know the drill. Just look at the recent thread where someone asked a question about Mormons. It brought “Elsie” out from under his (or her?) rock
with a complete “synopsis” of the Book of Mormon replete with a massive personal hate diatribe. Let’s see if he (she?) rises to t he bait here!

All businesses should try that :)
I found this on the GoFundMe site :

Donations made to a GoFundMe Personal campaign are generally considered to be personal gifts and are not guaranteed to be tax-deductible. You can always check with a tax professional to be sure. Only donations made to a GoFundMe Certified Charity campaign are guaranteed to be tax-deductible.

You can bet the IRS will find a away to get their share. However, I would fight it and claim I had 6000 people give me money and none of the gifts were more than $14K so it should be tax free IMHO

Here's the real agenda at work here:

Communist Goal #26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."

What you say may be true. But it doesn't justify posting the same thing over. And over. And over. And over.

I would suspect that most people who donated were already aware that it might be a scam, and were willing to take that chance. Posting something obvious and well-known, as though it were some rare and esoteric gem of knowledge, is just tiresome.

Most people already know there are risks involved in any donation. They are willing to take the chance, if the cause is worthy. Constantly re-posting what most of them already know adds nothing.
